In some countries it is not good to eat with hands but here in Pakistan we do believe that eating with clean hands will enhance out digesting power and there are evidance whcih you can get if you can have a little research so i prefer to use my hand rahter than spoon or fork.

In my country it is considered very rude to eat with your hands. Even if you have food like a chicken drumstick, you have got to ask permission at the table to use your hands. The only time that you are allowed is when you eat Lobster, and Prawns, but only if there is a side bowl and napkin to wash and dry your fingers during the meal.

It depends on the type of food I'm eating - if I am eating a sandwich, or some chips (fries), then I'll happily eat with my hands - it's easier that way, and you don't have to wash a fork afterwards! But if I'm eating something messy, like a noodle dish with sauce or something, then I tend to use a fork, because if I don't, I will have sauce all over my face and my hands, lol. I think, when you're at home, it's pretty much acceptable to eat any way you want, my boyfriend drinks soup straight from the bowl, and licks his plate after eating... I don't think he would do this in a restaurant, but at home, anything goes, and it's more fun that way :o)

some american foods you can get away with doing that successfully, like pizza.others are way too messy to even think about it.i suppose if i had one of those finger bowls for washing it off,i'd try it though.

Well here in Canada theres certain things you can use your hands for to eat like pizza, fries, burgers, called finger foods but mostly utensils are used for most meals. I personally love use the forks and whatever because I hate when my fingers get all messy, greasy and so on. My kids though they would eat with their feet if they could!lol

Not usually! Most times I'll use a fork or spoon. However, last night we did have sandwiches and that's classically eaten with the hands. But, when I was a kid we used forks to cut up our sandwhiches and then eat them. I know that most people don't do that. But, these were Sloppy Joe sandwiches. It's sort of like seasoned bbq beef on a bun. Much easier to eat with a fork and not the hands.

yes, i do that a lot when im eating nuggets, chicken wings or any other finger food. it makes me laugh how other people struggle to use knife and fork when eating pizza. i use my bare hands if possible. just make sure you dont mess yourself in the process.lol

Hey l_w,
I love finger foods & eating w/ my hands even on foods that really aren't considered finger foods here in the USA (ie:steak, pork chops) but I've always like to eat that way & my mother spoiled me so I didn't have to use utensils LOL

I will eat chips and drumsticks and some other things with my hands, but if the food is messy, I will use a spoon and or a fork. I cannot see my picking up a scoop of ice cream with my hand. It all depends on the food.

Wow.... eating without spoon and fork.... how terrible.... is it possible to eat this way? Well, the only time I ate without cutlery was when I bought a slice of pizza. I always ate slices of pizza using only my hands and nothing else. But when I am at home I buy a pizza and then I use the knife and the fork.
In my country - Italia - it's absolutely impossible to find people eating without spoon and fork at home.
How strange your way of eating.... and yet, it must be very "free".... without washing cutlery after the meal....

yup!I'm from Canada, and I was touring Laos in February, and had to learn to eat with chop-sticks. After a couple of weeks I got quite handy with them. I liked them because you can reach across the table to get something from another dish. I couldn't eat rice with them. For that I had to use a spoon.

Hello lucky_witch,
I normally eat with my hands. It is a culture here in my country ( I do believe it is same like yours) But when I eat outside or when I attend a formal dinner, I will definitely use fork and spoon. I feel much better when I eat with my bare hands and for local dishes like what we have here, it is easier to use your hands rather than fork and spoon *smile*
