Theres a little switch or button on one side of the thumb drive. Use it to switch from to disable the write protect before you insert your thumb drive.

I have read the thumbdrive specs (at least some of its models), it has an encryption feature. Maybe, you have enabled such and you failed to enter the correct password whenever you want to access data in it. Please refer to your users manual to see if you have actually enabled such feature.

Like Jodel says above, post the make and model of the thumb drive. If possible, maybe a picture too...just because. I had a similar problem with a flash card. The write protect switch was broken off, I had to open it up to fix it.

Some USB drives have a switch that determines the write protection of the device. Try to locate it. If it doesn't have any, kindly post the brand or model of the device. I'll gladly help you solve this problem of yours.
