The idea of heaven and hell

I don't believe in heaven nor hell. For me, it's just an idea created by man to instill fear for those who act against their belief. What I've understand in my life, is that,you'll have to walk the paths of hell to reach heaven.
How bout you guys, what can you say about the idea of heaven and hell?

Heaven and hell in the religious sense as you say are created by man ...they are the ultimate acroynyms....
My mother in law used to say that where we are all now IS hell.. i think she may have had a point when you consider what goes on on this sorry planet of ours...

I respect what you aid but I must disagree with your mother in law. I don't agree that we should describe our planet now as hell. I know there are lot of bad things happening but still we must look at the good side of it. No matter how bad it is, the good thing is, we can learn from it.

I believe there's a heaven and a hell in the most fundemental way. But I don't believe you get to either place based on the majority of good or bad in your actions. If you've done one bad thing, you're a wrongdoer. One fly still contaminates the pot. If you describe hell as an absence of God, then it goes to follow that heaven is where God is, and you get to either place based on whether or not you know Him, not whether or not you can do so many good things before you die.
