How has disc herniation affected you on a daily basis?

I have two herniated discs and also degenerative disc disease, with ostiophites. I have not been able to work for about six months. Physical therepy did not work, now I am facing surgery. I am afraid of the outcome of surgery, so many things can happen. There is no guarentee that surgery will even work. Has anyone dealt with this? What was your outcome? Right now I am in pain daily. Unable to function at the level I used to. My back problems greatly affect everything I do.
