Are you a workaholic?

Most men are but most women aren't! Oppss... it is not a fact. I created the statement myself. Please don't argue about it! Okay, let me ask you now, are you? As for me, I always wait impatiently for the time to go home (and always be one of those staff who are always punctual to punch the card) and be with my family. But mind you, I always finish up my job and do it perfectly. I am just not a workaholic. If I need to stay back, my mind will start to think about how to prepare meal, how to fetch my son from his babysitter, and how to finish up my house chores more than concentrating on what I need to do. I will try my best to finish up all the jobs which are given to me on time and be able to go home as soon as I could :) rather than being 'imprisoned' in my office till late night. Do share your opinion about yourself here, with me. Thank you and have a great working day tomorrow!

I'm not a workaholic, but I don't necessarily get excited about time to go home all the time. I like work that is challenging and interesting, that keeps my attention. At my work as a bank teller, I get caught up in situations my customers have with their accounts, and finding the best ways to help them. There have been days when I was working on a particular issue for a customer when I stayed much past closing time to help them! Right now I've been off work for almost two weeks because of illness, and I really miss my job! I suppose a lot of people who say I AM a workaholic considering the previous paragraph, but I don't think about work too much when I'm at home, and there are some days that I spend all day thinking about how I'd rather be home with my young son. He's only one year old, so everything he is doing and learning is so fresh and new! If I had the option, I would love to work part time and stay home with him part time, and have the best of both worlds!

Hello lecanis, I have the same wish and hope like you. I do hope that I can just stay at home and take care of my baby son. I want to see him growing up and learn new thing every single day. That is one of the reason why I don't prefer to be a workaholic:) I worked in a bank few years back. I understand how hard it could be. I seldom see the sunset :) My job finished at almost 9-10pm at night. So I experienced that workaholic lifestyle last time, if you can count that too... Just don't dream of being one nowadays :)

I would regard myself as a workaholic. And I think it applies to my work and my own website stuff. I always forget the time when I am working and if I have something not finish, I would try as much as possible to finish that before doing other things. It's even worst for my website stuff, I would sit in front of my computer for hours during weekend and try to fix everything, finding new ideas and modifying stuff. I always forget to eat during those hours and when I look at the clock, most of the time, half a day is gone! And when I work, I don't like people to disturb me. So, I am a lady but I am also a workaholic *laughs*.

I wouldn't do that with my day job in general, I guess I lack the passion on my day job. I could forget my meals when I am working on my website and writing my own things. I guess when you are passionate about something, everyone could be workaholic at some point!

Hello wondericequeen, How I wish I can be like you! Too much concentration till you forget to have your meals! ( I am yearning for that!) The nature of my job is not as hard as others. It is just a daily basis work and a bit boring after all this years :) But I am in a comfort zone. Eventhough it is a bit boring, I am still doing the job patiently. If my boss asks me to stay back, I will... no problem with that. Just that I am not a workaholic who will forget about everything else except the job they are doing :) Huh, I am far from that :)

Yes, when we have that passion, we will do our best and be a 'workaholic' too. Like someone is saying here, a 'houseworkaholic' I guess I am really good with housework and can be the head of that new group. Wanna join me, huh?

I am not sure whether I am a workaholic or whether I just do not like to be bored. I work at home now due to illness and I tap away at this keyboard for hours and everyone says it is silly trying to get on because I am ill and I don't need to. Which I don't, in theory, but I am running and administering some sites, am designing more sites and generally I am very happy when I am playing about with writing concepts etc. If all this comes together I shall have a small business of my own, so I leave you to decide, am I a workaholic or am I just keeping myself occupied lol. As to keeping track of household matters, I have a book and I note down any ideas such as "oh heck, we are out of milk!" and when my partner comes home I send him out to fetch the milk. That is not as lazy as it sounds, I have difficulty in walking about. The system works for me though.

Well, thank you for your lovely comments :-) I do work hard and to some extent the writing is a substitute for other activities. I do enjoy going outside but I am such a slow walker most of my friends get very bored at the pace, and also they don't like having to walk slowly and look at me so I can lip read. I can understand this to a degree, but I do find that the writing and on line stuff I do doesn't let me down in that way either. My Consultant has been a very good advisor. He told me in straight terms I can go under or I can adapt, so adapt I did lol. He says it is the equivalent of growing big fluffy wings lololol.

Hello shelagh77, You are a very hard working person and I salute you! As you mentioned here, you are not in a good health but still, you are trying to do everything possible on your own. I don't even know whether I can do like you. As whether you are workaholic or just trying to kill the time, I think you are simply amazing and hard working person :) Good luck with your small business!

So does that make you a "houseworkaholic?" :-) I used to be a workaholic. It ruined my health and I had to retire early with less pay. So I don't recommend it. I think homemakers can be workaholics, too. I had a neighbor that mopped her floors - all of them - every day and stripped and waxed them every week. She was always cleaning something. It wore me out just to watch her.

Hello youdontsay, Ahh, I like the word 'houseworkaholic'! I think I suit that perfectly. Unfortunately, I am in the same league with your neighbour. I do sweep and mop the floor everyday, wash and iron the clothes every two days, cook everyday, spring clean the house every week and blah blah blah. Do you think I am one of those houseworkaholics now? I am looking for new member, to form a group of houseworkaholics! LOL!

Hello Karlo111187, It is true that when you have that passion, you could be a workaholic too. In my case, when I love doing something, I can forget about everything else too but this is not including my office work *wink* I

gr8life,from you words,i feel that you are a happy woman,a happy mother and a happy wife. what you do can't improve taht you are not a workaholic, you just do what you should do.when you are on duty, you work hard and try you best to finish up all the things, wnen you are off duty, there is only baby and you family in you heart, because at this time you are mother, you are wife, not a office clerk. so how enviable you are.you balance your job and you family so good. what you do is just what i want to do,hehe.but the different is i have not a baby. of course some years later,i will have.i hope at that time i am a happy mother like you . wish you and you baby happy and healthy

Hello tracy2008, Thanks for the compliments *laughs* Honestly speaking, I prefer to be with my family more than anything else. I love to work and I do need to work to earn as I don't like to depend on my husband but at the same time, I always think of my family as my priority. Hope your wish will come true one day. Happy Day!

Hello meljessxena, Your partner is a hardworking person :) It is good for both of you. I am not a workaholic myself. I try not to be one. I have a small baby son who needs my attention and care so much now. If I need to choose, definitely I will choose him instead of my career.

Hello venshida, It is good that you have slowed down. I guess your kids need your attention more than what they get right now :) But it doesn't mean that you are not a good worker, am I right? Good luck to you! Hope you can get both : a successful career and a good kids :)

I usually leave at the time I'm supposed to. I don't mind staying a little bit late if there is work to be done but if I've finished my job by the end of the day (which is what I usually do) I go home as soon as it is time for me to leave. I don't stay around just for the hell of it if there's no work for me to do. I have a life besides my job that needs attention too.

As for me, I'm a work at home mom, and that's how we supplement my husband's income to pay bills. But, I'm guilty of the same thing. Whenever I should be working online or talking to customers I will find myself daydreaming of recipes or house cleaning. Isn't that funny? You would think work would be an escape from household life, but it's not. My family and daughter are my escape, much like your case. I am very happy to meet another person that shares an affinity and love for family. Family keeps me grounded!

Hello beautyqueen26, I do wish to be a work at home mom. It sounds easy but not easy for me to do it *smile* I am not too sure now whether thinking of family more than concentrating on the work that you need to do is a good or bad working attitude. But honestly, I just couldn't let my mind stop thinking of my family. It makes me happy though I fully understand, it takes more time, energy and patience to do house work and to care for the family compare to doing the office work.

Hello samex55, It is a normal statement from normal people :) We work when we need to work and relax when we need to relax too. That way, our life is more colorful and we will feel better, am I right? I don't ever dream of being a workaholic. My career is important but my family is the most important :)

I like my job too :) but it is just a job without enough passion to make me one of those workaholics! Anyway, honestly speaking I work for money. I do want to work for passion and I think we can be a workaholic too if we have passion in what we are doing!

Hello jelani2322, Some of us are not workaholic people but sometimes, the job itself makes us sound like we don't have anything else to do except working. I know sometimes it is very hard. Lucky for me that my job is a daily basis job. I work for foreign government and it is not that hard. Most of the time, I don't have to stay back. Maybe once in a blue moon ... :)

I'm not a workaholic but I don't think there's anything wrong with being one. People who can find something that they're so passionate about that they would rather spend their time on that than anything else in the world are really lucky. For me work is just a way to earn money so that I can do the things that I really like - like paint or write - but if i could make money doing something that I'm passionate about then I think that I could turn into a workaholic.

Yes, definitely you are right. If we have that passion and really love what we are doing, we can turn to be another workaholic. Just that the word doesn't suit me, really. I am far from being one but it doesn't mean I take my job lightly. Good luck to you!

Well, there is nothing wrong with being punctual in punching the time card to go home. That is just a part of time management between job and family. As for me, i am not that workaholic, it just happen that the job responsibility i handled depends on the extended hour of the factory to finish to ensure that everything run smoothly. It is tough, as i can't handle my own time and there is no definite time for me to go home. Despite of this somehow being imprison inside the company, i enjoy my job so there is no regret at my side.

Hello a_ce_e, I think it is a bit hard working at a factory. As long as you are happy with your job, it doesn't matter. As for me, the nature of my job is very simple. I work for the administration department. It is always a daily basis job. Guess it is good for someone like me :)
