My daughter's pet the goldfish die. She is 4 yrs old. Should I tell her the truth or should I get the same exact one without telling her. She's with my mother in law right now, and will come back dinner time

I would tell her and then if she wants you can both go to the store and pick out another one. I never pass up an opportunity for a learning experience like this. :)

I think you need to tell her the truth, even at the age of four they need to learn that pets die. By covering it up you are lying to her and I feel that is not good.

This is a tough one, I would say that it's probably a good idea to be up front with your daughter though. It's better to explain the loss of a goldfish earlier on, so that if she is faced with a tougher loss in life she can understand it a little better.

I say you just keep her happy and buy her a new fish. For the same reasons why you don't tell her that Santa Claus is actually her parents.
