Pop or Soda......or Coke

While in college it seemed like an endless battle of whether it was pop or soda. Then I came to realize some places refer to all Soda Pop as Coke. What do you say it is and whats your justification? I say Pop, its like a watermelon or a honeydew melon......the second word is what it is and the first is just more detail.
