I'm trying to stop my addiction to coffee/caffeine. I've tried cold turkey, i've tried the scale down method, i've tried herbal supplements. Nothing works as I relapse every time.
It's to the point where I have 4 cups of coffee and 5 diet caffeinated sodas everyday.

It's not that caffeine will kill me, but it's a waste of money.

Well the caffeine may not kill you but the diet sodas will - 5 a day! You'll get very fat and unhealthy, tis only a matter of time if it's not already a problem. 4 cups of coffee a day is not too bad compared to some. Diet sodas is a myth, they do nothing to help you loose weight and are quite toxic. They are no healthier than non-diet sodas.
The paradox here is that you are probably dehydrated by what you are drinking and when you actually stop, the craving is major. You will have to replace the sodas with water or perhaps water mixed with lemon or something like that. Try not to replace the sodas with fruit drinks solely as you will still end up with major sugar intake (fructose).
Initially stay with the 4 cups of coffee but stop the sodas. Give yourself an incentive to save money, soda drinks are expensive and as you say it is a waste of money. Money down your own drain!
I suspect your difficulty in withdrawals and relapsing is to do with sugar and not so much the caffeine. And no matter which way you look at it, it is a matter of will to make changes. But hydrating your body with water and eating fruit that has natural fibre you will go through withdrawal more easily and lessen the chances of relapsing.
Good luck.

There's some information on coffee addiction here: http://www.squidoo.com/coffeeaddiction - but the basics is to slowly decrease the amount of caffeine you consume. Try replacing some coffee with tea instead.

LOL I used to drink 4 pots of coffee a day! I did quit and did it cold turkey. I just made up my mind and did it. I suffered the withdrawl symptoms for a week but after that I was good. I do on the odd occasion have a cup of coffee but I don't even really like it anymore and won't even finish the full cup. I drink herbal tea as a hot drink now. Good luck with it! :)
