If you had all the land that you needed and the proper growing conditions what kid of fruits and vegetables would you grow. With the cost of gas (and diesel) costing more than eve it is costing the earth a lot to ship fruits and vegetables from around the world would you try to grow your own fruit and vegetable in your land. Of would you still buy from the grocery store or fruit store? And why would you buy if you can grow your own?

I'd first try to see what type of fruit or vegetables are good for my land. There are different soils/conditions for every fruit or vegetable, so I must first see what is best. I think you can consult an agriculturist for this one.
It also depends where you are. Is your place tropical? do you have hurricanes there? what are the weather conditions all throughout the year?
Here in my place, we have a farm, we grow mangoes. My place is known for it's mangoes. Plus mangoes are like money trees, they fruit twice a year and could last a lifetime if you know how to take care of them.

I mentioned that the conditions would be food for any type of plant, not just plants that you can grow in your area. In other words if it would grow where you are what kinds of plants would you grow?.

Is this for long term or short term? If you are in for long term, you can go for mangoes, durian trees etc.
But for short term, there are vegetables.
You should attend some agricultural seminars in your area, they will teach you what to plant, how to plant and when to plant.

i remember growing up helping my grandparents farm fresh veggies and its ALOT of hard back breaking work ..but if i had the land and know how i think i would try and grow some corn, beans, tomatoes and maybe peas...and certainly green onions and lettuce (onions and lettuce is easy) but as far as fruits maybe a couple of apple trees and plums nothing tastes as good as a apple picked off a tree my aunt used to grow some of the best dang apples ever i miss them..and ooh a couple fences of grapes ...interesting topic :)
