How do you keep strangers from talking to your kids?

When I was a kid my mom would tell strangers that I was shy and that's why I wouldn't talk to them. She'd even say that to people that went to our church. Maybe it was her way of sheilding me from having to talk to someone I didn't know. Or, maybe she was embarrassed at what I might say. Who knows? So, how do you keep strangers from talking to your kids?

My son is very friendly and out going. I have more of a problem keeping him from strangers than strangers coming up to him. I just have to keep a very close eye on him and as he gets older begin to talk to him more about stranger danger. I will have to handle it very delicately because I do not want to discourage his friendly, out-goingness.

My son that is 5 is very friendly....but I am extremely attentive so I never take my eyes off of him when we are out....there is no way for someone to get to him on our property...Our home sits at the back end of our property and there is a fence around the house...for him to play in....we sit at the end of the road which stops in front of my house.... Plus his play area is where I can sit and see him no matter where he is in the front yard because of the way my windows are...I feel that he is extremely safe....

Yes my kids are aware of strangers. They don't talk to them. When they saw new faces then i would temm them that Oh she's a friend ... as much as posible they only talk to someone they knew.
