Did you wake up in labor?

In a way I'm glad that I had an induced labor. Tucked safely into my hospital bed, I was able to progress from the beginning to end of labor surrounded by medical professionals. But, I know that some women actually go into labor while they're asleep. Did this happen to you? How did you make it from your home to the hospital in labor? Did you forget anything important in the rush, like the directions to hospital or keys to your car? Please share.

I am one of those women who did most of my labor at home. I went to bed at 11pm thinking I was just having cramps. Well I woke up at 3am and my "cramps" were getting worse. So I decided to take a shower to try to relax. When I got out of the shower my fiance woke up and he was the one who told me he thought I was in labor. I was still in denile. So he called the midwife and she said this could go on for hours or even days since this was my first baby and I was still 5 days from my due date. So my fiance fixed me a bowl of cereal and ran me a bath. While I was in the bath all of a sudden my contractions started getting really strong and really close together. So he called the midwife back and she said she would meet us at the birth center in 5 minutes. When my fiance tried to get me dressed I was in so much pain I wanted nothing to do with my clothes lol. So he just threw my bathrobe around me grabbed our bags and got us to the birth center. When I got to the birth center I was already 7cm dialated. So everything went really fast. I had my daughter at 8:36 that morning. So did I forget anything, well if you consider getting to the birth center butt naked I guess I did lol.

That is phenomenal that you were able to hold out at home in so much pain. I know how you must have been hurting. The pain that I felt when my Stadol ran out at five cm dialated was the most pain I ever want to experience. They didn't want to give me more till the anesthesiologist got to the hospital and put the epidural went in. They said he was about 45 minutes from arriving. So, I sat on the side of the bed and chanted, "When is he going to get here." Over and over again. Until the nurse agreed to give me some medicine. I wore down her resistance with my pain, and nagging I think. LOL! I'm lucky the next one will be an automatic c-section. No choice. That's the way the last one ended. Will do the same next time.

I woke up in labor with my second child at around 5 am. It wasn't unmanageable, and I actually think I got pretty lucky.
I paced around the house on my own for a while and found the solitude quite pleasant. I had a shower, and at 7 I woke up my husband and called my parents, so they could come to look after my first child.
I went into hard labor just as my parents arrived at 7:30, so the drive to the hospital was uncomfortable, but it was only 10 minutes away. When the nurse checked to see how far along I was, she announced that the baby was ready to come out immediately. She delivered my son about 10 minutes later, before the doctor even arrived.
It was over so quickly, that my hair looked surprisingly freshly washed and brushed in the first pictures we have of my son.

Wow! That is an amazing birth story. I wish mine had gone so well. Once they induced labor, I was in hard pain until the epidural went in. I know they tell moms to be that the Stadol will numb down the pain. It did not do an effective job in my opinion. So, I would pass out and then wake up everytime at the height of a contraction.

Yes, with both of mine...I woke up at 3 am stayed at home for an hour, shower etc...and thought I better get to the hospital it was just over an hours drive, and an hour later I had my bub..The other one was the same up at 3 am and then get to the hospital didnt rush though because the hospital was closer that time. But its scarey but there is so much going through your mind that you really dont notice at the time.

No, for me my labor started around 6 PM, and every 10 minutes for about 24 hours I had contractions. I was in so much pain and the contractions prevented me from sleeping most of the night. I think I actually just passed out for 2 hours around 3 AM, I don't know how I slept through the pain, but I think my body just shut down and made me sleep.

I have 5 boys and each and every labour was different. The first: on my way home from anti natal visit went into labour. Decided to wait for my husband at home as he was out fishing. On way to hospital some joker decided we were trying to race him and he would not let us pass. Not to far from the hospital we stopped at traffic lights and joker was next to us. My husband got out of the car(not a good idea as there were police at the opposite side of lights) and loudly told the guy that I was in labour, this bought on an attack from his girlfriend who was sitting beside him. I was just glad to get to the hospital.
2nd son, woke at about 3.30am and was in early labour.
3rd son: we lived about 10 mins from hosp this time went into labour about 6am, rang friend to come over and had towait 1.5 hrs forher to ger there. I was in last stages of labour by this time and we only made it to the hosp with 8 min to spare. Last 2 were very quick and had to go straight away as i did not have much time with the third boy.

When i went into labor with my first child at 36 weeks it was unexpected that early. It started around 5pm, but not hard contractions, but enough to know they were there. Around 10.45pm after hours of nesting, i attempted to sleep (apparently i thought i could sleep during labor. LOL) and 15 minutes later i woke up with them becoming painful. so from that point on, until 7am, i attempted to sleep through contractions. 15 mins, 10 mins, 6 mins. needless to say, there was no sleeping because if i even moved, i'd contract. anyway, i saw your discussion and giggled because i actually thought i'd catch cat naps through my 14hrs of labor BEFORE i went to the hospital (ended up being 25hrs)

I have a total of three kids, but only two are mine. With both of them I went into labor while I was asleep. But luckily I got to the hospital just fine both times. I didn't forget anything because I had my bags packed and ready to go. I guess the only crazy part of either labor was my second one I barely made it to the hospital. When I got there I was 9cm dialated.

Yes, I woke up around 3 in the morning with a really bad cramp. I had been told in my birthing classes to try and stay home for as long as possible because I would be able to move around and find more ways to get comfortable. I woke my husband and told him I think I was in labor but that he should keep sleeping so he wouldn't be too tired... he still picks on me about that. Yeah, right hun, you just tell me you are in labor with our first child but I think I'll roll back over and catch a few more winks. I tried to walk around and thought about eating something since that was the other thing I had been warned... they won't let you eat anything at the hospital. But food didn't sound very good at the moment. I was trying to be so cool about it all and not panic. I took a shower and tried to pamper myself a bit. Next thing I know I realize that my doctor's office was open for the day so I called and literally asked for permission to go to the hospital.... yeah, I don't know about that???? When the doctor asked for all the vitals my husband was in my ear telling me how often the contractions were coming and I almost paniced then - I did not realized how close they were. By the time we left for the hospital it was rush hour traffic time and I had to drive into Dallas. I was seven cm dialated by the time I got there. I went from having one nurse telling me to change close and lay down and be calm, remember to breathe, to all of the sudden 8 people in the room helping her get me hooked up to everything when she realized I was 7 cm. That was a little weird. But all progressed normally from there and my little guy was born at 3:15 that afternoon.
We had been wisely directed to have our bags totally packed about a month prior, so we didn't forget a thing. He came 8 days early but we were ready for him.

I was 10 days late with my son, so they induced me. Till it was all said and done it only took about 12 hours. The day before my daughter was born, my husband and I both had the stomach flu. Throwing up at 9 months pregnant is not fun! I got it before him, so I got over it before him but I was left feeling crampy all night. My mom came to get my son so we didn't get him sick. She told me that I would probably have the baby that weekend. I woke up around 4:30am the next morning with contractions, so I got up and took a shower. My husband heard me and asked me what in the world I was doing taking a shower. I told him to go back to sleep, I would let him know. I started timing contractions, they were not regular but getting stronger. We were at the hospital by 6:30am and they said because of having the flu the day before I was probably dehydrated and they would most likely send me home. At the last minute they decided to check me. I was 5 - 6 cm dilated. I wasn't going anywhere! My beautiful baby girl arrived around 12:30 that afternoon. It was all very laid back and I didn't mind labor and birth at all. Yes it hurt, but the reward at the end is priceless!!

I woke up in labor at 39 weeks and 5 days. I just hung around the house until my contractions were too strong to bear and then hubby drove me to the hospital. We did forget the bag though.
