Should dog owners go to jail for bad dog behavior?

I believe this should depend strongly on the sitution. If the animal is protecting his family and home from harm (real) NO. I do believe proper handling of the animal helps avert problems. If the animal is properly restrained and on his own home area, then the problem was brought to him. Animals don't see people as grown, child or in between ages. They either see whichever as a threat or non threat. People see that a person is grown, old, young or teenager. We should have a understanding of dog behavior to better prevent these type of situtions. Most things we here about in the news isn't everyday things. They are usually people that own animals that either haven't trained them or can handle them or they train them to be this way. Animals shouldn't be banned for someones stupid and irresponsible behavior. We do live in America. We are suppost to have freedom of choice and what animal to own is just one of those choices. Instead of more laws maybe inforcing the ones we have would be a better idea. I know around here they are harder on someone that their animal has gotten out or loose once in a blue moon. They seem to look the other way for the ones that run loose all the time.

Yep! Once again talking serious mauling events where dogs get loose in neighborhoods. Dog owners should be held responsible for that kind of thing, right? Or, is it just up to the unsuspecting passerby to fend for themselves against a full grown aggressive dog?

Luckly, thank goodness, mine hasn't gotten out or bitten anyone. I work hard to make sure the sitution doesn't occur. A couple of our neighbors let their animal run loose alot. Another doesn't let theirs run loose but it got out while they were gone. (Doggie Door for bathroom ability). They by the way have a fenced yard. The animal control were nasty to them and never even bother the other neighbors that let theirs run loose. If your animal has bitten you have a responsibility to correct the problem depending on the sitution. I own a doberman and she hasn't bitten or offered to bite anyone. She is very sweet natured but because she is a dobe I have to watch her carefully more for what people think then anything else. She doesn't have to do something for someone to think she will because of her being a doberman. Unfortunately that is the way it is with most of the breeds of dogs they want to band. She also isn't out during the time we are not at home. The pug in my picture is of my little one I lost a while back.
