'It is really cold in sydney, the tempeature is less than 5 degrees at the night time. I do not have heating at home, before i go to sleep,i will drink a cup of hot water,i will wear pairs of socks and a sweater when i am sleeping. Also i have two wool blankets to keep me warm.'
Do you like cold weather? I do not like cold weather as i hate wearing so many clothes when going out.
Or will you have summer all year? What is the lowest annual temperature then?
What will you do when it is cold? Do you switch on the heaters, have hot water bath or other methods to keep you warm? Do you have any food which can keep your body warm after you consume it?
Do you tend to stay at home in winter more often than in the summer? What do you usually do in the winter?
Do share your thoughts?:)

Hello easy, welcome back to the mundane world. Congratulations on coming out of your meditation retreat and braving once again the insane myLot storm.
In Singapore, how cold is cold? I think you know that we do not have the four seasons here. So it is hot and humid all year round. When it is cold, it is likely due to the rain or more likely, when you are in an air-conditioned place.
For guys, unless you have reached a certain age, we don't generally put on something extra. So it would be just on piece of clothing on top for us. But yes, some guys do break the convention and wear an extra jacket. It is not usually done since it conveys an impression that you are too frail to withstand the cold. So we usually stick it out.
We do not have heaters in Singapore. It is like selling heaters in the Sahara Desert so it does not make much economic sense. I know in countries with four seasons, some houses have both heaters and air conditioners. However, here in Singapore, we only have aircons installed. So if it is our aircon that is causing "problem", then we will just increase the aircon temperature. If it is our room, we just use a blanket, or wear socks (for some).
If it is outside aircon, well, slurp it up. You can't control them.
So all in all, since it is generally not cold and the cold circumstances are quite likely within our control, we don't need to turn to hot water baths, heaters or any special food.

Compared to Israel, I guess it is hotter over there. When I said "hot and humid", I thought it might be a bit misleading. That's the "official" description always used to describe my country but we are not that hot.
Maybe around 25 to 33 degrees Celsius usually.

Wizard,i think i will love singapore as i can survive with summer clothes,i am sure i do not need any jackets at all.25-33 degress is perfect for me:)
By the way,i also want to say those people who come from south east asia always have endearing smiles on their faces,is it because of the hot temperature that make them smile more often? On the other hand, those people from the countries with cold weather all year tend to have cold faces, may be their hearts are warm though.
Liranlgo,40 degrees celsius at the morning,is it the hottest temperature in the summer?? Last year, the highest temperature in syndey was 43 -45 degree,i just wanted to have my underwear on at that day.:P

Though I've lived in sunny California for the last several years, it does tend to get rather could where I live (once in the blue we get snow), but have lived in the colder climates. Generally I try to keep the heating off since it costs so much out here, but have a hard time keeping it on anyway, since it just dries me out. When I do turn it on, it's usually only in short spurts; otherwise, I keep myself warm with some coffee or tea, a heating blanket, lots of socks and tons of blankets.
I usually prefer the cold over heat though lol, seems like it's an easier fix. So I guess I stay in more during the summer, with it getting up to 115+F here, unless I know I'm going where the a/c is. I feel for you, though, on having to over-dress when going out. Nothing more annoying than that, short of clearing snow off your car.
Hope you warm up soon!

Hi easy888,
I didn't know it gets that cold in Australia! The last time I was in anything below freezing was when I went to the East coast for the holidays ten years ago. We went to see the Macy's Parade in New York, when the wind chill brought the temp down to 16F (Do you measure in Celsius, or Farenheit?). I distinctly remember it was the year that the Garfield float knocked down a lamppost. :o
Here where I'm at, it rarely gets very much below freezing. So needless to say, it doesn't take quite as much to "weather the weather." We usually turn on the heater in the wintertime, just high enough so we can't see our own breath. :P I have a Levi Strauss wool coat to wear outside (It's really cozy; even wet wool is better than dry cotton in the cold!), and thinner ones I might put on occasionally if I'm a bit chilly inside the house.
Right now, we're not using the heater. We're using the air conditioner; it's getting pretty close to 100F outside these days! :S

Oh yeah, I forgot you use the metric system. 5 degrees Celsius is equivalent to about 41 degrees Farenheit. I think the coldest it ever gets out here is the low 30s or high 20s (Farenheit). My wool coat would be sufficient for me.

May be i need to buy a levis strauss wool coat so as to keep me warm at the winter:P.
I had been to the Snowy mountain in australia few years ago,the temperature was below 0 degree and i actually saw snow was falling, when i was on the chairlift to the peak, the snow hit my face and made my whole body like freezing.

Ooh, what was it like, going up the mountain on the lift? I've actually never done that before; sounds fun!
I forgot to mention that I worked a temp job once at a cold logistics warehouse. They kept pallets of frozen foods in subzero temperatures. They gave us full-body suits to wear in the freezers.
It was a fairly laid back job. All I had to do was walk from aisle to aisle, sweeping ice, dirt, wood splinters, and occasional spilled food from the packages with a push broom. I used to smoke back then, which was a decent excuse to occasionally escape and "thaw out." :P

I think all we do the same when it is cold. We wear warmer clothes and heat the buildings.
I have never met anybody who enjoyed being outside when it was cold.

Wow.. you think 5C is cold? I think that's more like our spring weather. Winter can be far colder, with minus degrees.
I like the cold weather myself, but I heat my home in the winter, with storage heaters and open, log fires. I love the snow, although we don't get too much of that, and I love frosty mornings. I don't wear extra clothes, because extra clothing just transfers the heat. I wear my normal, short-sleeved shirt with perhaps a cardigan to keep my arms warm, and when I go out in the cold, I put on my fleece jacket and occasionally a scarf around my neck.
Brightest Blessings.

I had been in a place with negative degree temperature once before, honestly i did not feel much difference with like 3 or 4 degrees as in both cases i had worn very thick jackets.
May be you have got use to the cold temperature, that is why you can wear short sleeves clothes with cardigan only even in cold winter.

In my region, the garden city of India the lowest temparture os 18 degrees. To beat it, just a sweater and a blanket is more than sufficient. Room heaters are not necessary. As a nature freek I travel to coldest regions of India during winter! When I am thre I use bonfire and the sleeping bag. To generate heat in my body I hold my stomach tightly in the cold regions.

I love the cold weather easy.
I never turn the heat on, i just put more cloth on, and drink hot drinks like you.
I also put a warm pair of socks, because it is known that if your feet is warm, all of your body will be warm.
In australia the weather is opposite from israel.
You have 5 degrees now, and we have atleast 40 degrees.
The weather is so hot, you do not see many people out of the house.
It is now 09:30 a.m. here, and it so hot, the the air condition in my room is working from 06:00 a.m.
My dream this days is that the weather would cool down. :)

i keep my heat where it is-but i pile on the clothes and drink some hot tea or coffee.oil is too expensive to keep jacking it up.
i do tend to stay home more in winter-if it's really cold and windy out,or worse yet snow,i'd rather stay in.

Yeh, I do all of these. Heat is necessary for the survival. Anything which protects us and makes us comfortable is welcome.
We may not need more clothes if our places are centrally heated. When inside our houses, we do not need to put more clothes. We need to wear them when we go out.
Where houses are not centrally heated, we will need heaters. At that time, it may also be necessary to put on more clothes.

When it gets a little colder may be after a rain or something, the first thing I do is to wear some warm clothing. I usually don't put on the heater till it really gets very cold or if it is in winter or something like that. I like to conserve a bit of energy and save on cost as well. I really don't mind the cold weather that much as I just try to avoid being outdoors as much as possible.

Hello Easy,
When it is cold i wear socks during the day and put on pullover and naturally windows and doors shut to keep room warm. And sleep with woolen blankets to keep myself warm. Though i don't sleep with socks and don't use heater.
I try eating food with hot spices in it that contains ginger, garlic..
I also like summers more as one doesn't have to wear too many clothes and can chill out with ceiling fan or cooler to keep one self cool. I drink lot of fluids in summer to keep myself cool. I enjoy spring season the best as it is neither too hot or too cold.

Even i have closed all the doors and windows, the cold wind can still pass though the gaps of the door and windows and i can still feel the cold outdoor.
When i eat spicy food,i will keep sweating ,may be i will loss my body heat quicker:P,that is also one of the reason i seldom eat spicy food.

i wish i could be in sydney. we are just roasting in the sun and the summer has not been so fierce ever!! its hot, sultry, sticky and annoying. poor daily wagers who have to go out and do the labor!! ours is very moderate winter. i hardly wear pure woollens, i just love to though. i can't wear my fur stuffs..lol..
and heaters, no way, we don't get that much chill here. may be, in the himalayan belt in kashmir and north east, they require heating stuff.

i am from Calcutta, the eastern part of India. the summers are hot and moist. however, the north is quite hot but dry so the heat may be scorching there but it doesn't kill that much, as it does in my city.
i know about sydney. my one good pal lives there, he is a doctor.

Hi easy888, I hate the cold and I feel for you not having heating, We just moved and did not have heating for about a week, it was awful we were waking up like ice blocks. We have air conditioners now, in our last house we had a combustion fireplace. I ususally tend to hibernate in the winter in my warm house.

We here in Kerala, south India have a sort of balanced whether. The temperature never gets to any extreme. At the apex summer it will be somewhere near 38C and in severe winter it may get low as much 17C. So we don't even have any warm clothing or room heating faility. I think our land is blessed with a moderate weather.
Thank you.

Hi, easy888, I know what you mean about it being so cold at night. We do use the heater, but only for short periods of time, and the big problem is that the computer room is actually shut off from where the heater is, so it is always so cold in here. I am always so rugged up, but I can't where gloves while typing, so my hands and fingers freeze! I also suffer from a condition called chilblain lupus, which affects my fingers and toes, and is partly due to poor circulation, so the cold can make things worse. But I can't bring myself to stop mylotting, so I have to endure the pain, lol! I also sleep with socks on, but there are two quilts on our bed, so at least I get to defrost once I've gone to bed! After all that, I say bring on summer, lol!

So can you use your computer in the room where the heater is on so that you do not need to work in front of the computer in a cold environment?
So how can you deal with chiliblain lupus?? I have heard about it but i am not sure how people will be affected by it.Hope you will be ok.
And i am waiting for the summer now.

We haven't really got the room for the computer where it is nice and warm, unfortunately. I do use a prescribed steroid cream, and the doctor only recently put me on a low dose blood pressure medication, as supposedly it helps open the capillaries, or something like that. Made me feel crook for a day or so, and hasn't helped the chilblains yet. I didn't tell him about the time spent in the cold on mylot, otherwise he might have told me to stop, lol!

I go outside a lot more in the winter because it's so much easier to dress warm if it's cold outside. I definitely prefer the cooler weather to the summer heat.
