Do you readily share your REAL PICTURE with VIRTUAL FRIENDS?

Since joining mylot, I have some friends asking for my real picture. I confess that I'm still a little skeptic about sharing my picture with anyone else. I'm a very private bunny by nature and it will take a virtual friend a long time before catching a glimpse of the real me.
I've seen a lot of friends here who used their real pictures as their avatars. Some even have it pasted on their profiles. It always left me thinking how confident and trusting these friends are. I just don't have it in my bones.
Do you readily share your real picture with virtual friends then? Do you need to get to know your virtual friends first before sharing your picture? Can you easily trust your virtual friends and wouldn't mind exchanging pictures? Do you prefer to avoid sharing picture? If I ask you to paste your picture here, will you be brave enough to do it right away? Do share your thoughts.

Hello baby, I am an old-fashioned kind of guy so you already know my answer to your question.
I am too shy to show people my picture and I don't want it used for dart-throwing, clog-hitting or curse-casting.

I don't mind posting my picture. as a matter of fact, I have used one of my pictures as my user image. I don't mind if people will see my face. in fact, I like them to see "me" so they can relate my discussions to what they can see. however, I do mind if a person asks me to send him/her any of my pictures. I don't just give pictures of me. maybe it doesn't matter since im posting my pics here but I think there's a difference between posting in public & giving it privately. ^__^

I'm quite a private person and have always been hesitant in showing my real picture or that of my family. So you're not alone, bunny!

Well, charms, first of all, welcome back after a long time. It's good to see you back. As for your question, well, as you see, I've also not given my real picture. I think most of the people prefer it that way. Even if some people give their "real" pics, you have no proof that the profile and the pic are of the same person. It may be a fake. You know, the net is a place where it is very easy to become a fraud. People will try to gain access to your personal life without you being any the wiser. It's much better to remain behind a veil of secrecy. You haven't met any of your virtual friends personally. You don't know their natures. Why will you accede to their demands, especially if there is a danger of an infringement of your privacy? Lastly, I would like to say that at least for me, I love to imagine and I like to imagine the faces and characters of my friends myself which are more perfect than the persons may be in the real world. A real picture doesn't give room for imagination. Perhaps you'll agree with me.
Waiting eagerly for your reply.

I agree that our avatars can serve us a lot of purposes. I can actually get the chance to know more of my virtual friends by reading their responses. Correct me if I'm wrong. I came to know you as someone who is frank and direct. :) As for the real faces behind each avatar, my imagination always failed me. I received some pictures of my virtual friends and their faces are not what I imagined they are. We can keep on fantasizing about this poster's face but to see their actual picture can have a different effect on us.

Well, charms, I did feel flattered when you described me as "frank and direct". Thanks for the compliment. :) Yes, you guessed it right. That's a part of my character. But do mark it, it's only a PART. You cannot judge a person fully unless you've spent quite a time with him/her personally. Typed words and photos are not totally expressive of the person's character. So it's better, I think, not to give out your pics at all in case it falls into wrong hands.

Ah, but you are telling me that this is not your picture bunny? I have always thought it was you. How sad to find out that it isn't. LOL I am very shy and hate the way I look, so very few know what the real monkey looks like. I am alot like you in that aspect. It's not about trusting anyone, it's about self confidence and my lack of it. I prefer to keep hiding behind my little baby monkey.

Hello Charms,
I am also very private and shy person by nature and don't like sharing my real pictures with strangers esp. in virtual world. It is not matter of hiding or lack of confidence or anything but by nature i like my inner beauty to radiate rather my outer beauty as i feel have substance. Moreover with lot of cases on net of pictures been forged and misused i am skeptical about the whole thing.

Sweetie you have my Photo but that is because I fully trust you
I am not that easy on giving the Photo out lol
I would certainly not put it in anywhere like here
I have got it in Jimbo's Forum but that is only because it is all close Friends in there but no it depends if I trust the Person and how long I have spoke to them before I send my Photo lol
Love and Hugs

Why is someone trusting and confident if they post their photo Bunny? I don't understand. People are naturally curious to put a face to the posts they read and the new friend they have made. It helps to see if someone looks friendly so you can more easily imagine their expressions and emotions.
Are you afraid people will judge you by your appearance and find you lacking? It really doesn't matter what others think of you. In your case, your friends find you charming and you come across as a caring, loving, gentle person.
BTW, my photo is in my profile. I was trying out a different smile because I have really awful teeth. Now that I've said that will you stop being my friend? LOL, I don't think so somehow.
Hugs to you my bunny friend from your grinny.

No I do not share my picture with anybody over the net or theu mails also. It is not safe and in the current scerario anybody can morph the same and misuse it. You should also be careful while giving the picture. It had happened with me. I'd scanned my signatures and pasted on the Bio-Data nut the employer had manipulated my CV and forwarded to different agencies to get some favour. So be careful while you are sending anything scanned.

I was a little squeamish about posting my picture on mylot at first, but I really like having it up on my profile now. I like seeing pictures of my friends as well, because I see online friends as real friends just as offline onees, and I like having an image of them to fit to their words. Otherwise I wind up imagining them as their avatars or some abstract image, and it makes some serious conversations seem less personal and real.
I would never have my picture as my avatar though. I just don't have a picture that I like enough, and I don't feel the need to see my face all day long. I really like the anime character that I use to represent myself, and I chose her for a very specific reason.
If it's someone I've been talking to online who requests my picture via email or something, I am even more ready to give it out, as long as it's someone I feel is a real friend to me!

Awww lecanis, your son is adooorrraabbllle. I can't drop a nice comment as I need to be on your list. I can understand what you mean about choosing the avatar we used. I also have specific reason for using mine. I might post my real picture in 10 years, LOL! Thanks for sharing the photo. I love it!!!

I do not share my real picture on the net. And even if I knew the home address of my virtual friends and found out that they lived down the block from me, I would not put my photo where anyone can see it. In fact, I would have to know them personally and visit them a few times in person to even give them a picture of myself and I am sure they would do the same. Here on myLot we use a nickname instead of our real name for a good reason, so no crazy may look through the names and send threatening letters and emails to everyone with their name. The same applies to photos. An evil person can pay a detective good money to track down the person whose photo is it.

Shhhhh don't tell anyone - my avatar is really me. I figure all the creeps around if they want to be weird or do something there at a million other ways besides my old lady picture. The advantages are I have found that more people will 'trust' someone when they can put a face with the words and with my online ministry several years ago I decided to 'just be me' and not let creeps stop me.

whew - found me, I hate it when I get buried on page 90 of a discussion, makes it much harder to find myself later :)
Hey may need you to get those fangs out here shortly or maybe you can loan them to me virtually.
Getting really annoyed with my 'work' situation and am about to go over the manager's head and call the owner of the company I do the majority of my writing for. Really am begining to think someone is jerking me around - I have been working and I need/want my money... I've never had this problem before and I am going past annoyed to down right mad. You don't want to see this German/Irish/Hillbilly get mad...

Even in real life, I do not give my picture to anyone, nor exchange pictures. So understandably, the same applies to my virtual friends. Having said that, would you believe this is me if I pasted my picture here? I am simply too shy to show my picture here. An ugly duckling will never turn into a swan in real life, so why give people heart attack? lol.
Personally, I would rather see the real person than picture. How would I know if the picture is truly representative of the person. I am not saying the people here are dishonest, but we know how crimes are committed, especially over chat lines. I
would prefer to live in my imagination the image of my virtual friend based on my
understanding. The image of a lively skinny bunny chewing a carrot is something I
kept vividly in my mind - the charming charms.
