One of the places that we went to visit while we were in Birmingham was the Vulcan (sometimes referred to as Iron Man). This is a very historical site. It was built years ago when the steel mills were active there in Birmingham. It took several years and a lot of manpower to build this status. There is a gift shop in the Vulcan Center that also has a exhibit telling the history of how the Vulcan came to be built. It is a very interesting story. Unfortunately there were also some lives lost during the building. If you ever get a chance to go to Birmingham this is a place you need to see.
I have a picture here that I have uploaded. The problem is, I got it sideways, LOL. Oh well, you can still see how neat it looks at night.

I love the Vulcan. I live in southeast Alabama, and lived in Alabaster for a year when I was in college. I have visited B'ham alot and always try to drive by the Vulcan at night.

Hi There!
It is good to hear from you! This was the first time we had ever gone at night, but with the weather so hot and sticky during the day we decided to try it. I'm so glad we did! It was so pretty! We were staying at the DoubleTree Hotel right at the bottom of the hill and our car was parked on the top row of the parking deck. The night before we went up there my husband was out at the car for something and he could see the Vulcan from the parking deck. He said if our kids and I hadn't already got dressed for bed that he would have had us come out there and see it.
Too bad he didn't have the camera with him at that moment to get a shot of it from that angle LOL.

I'm glad you like it aprilgrl. I went into the program where I have the picture and rotated it the correct way but it still came out sideways when I uploaded here LOL. Oh well, at least people can tell what it is. :)

Wow, that is a cool site. It's even more mysterious for the angle of the picture. I think it is great that people seek out the maybe less known places for their state or surrounding states. Some of the most interesting stories are the ones that aren't well circulated.

I love the Vulcan. We got to Birmingham every couple of months and it is one of our favorite places to visit. I have only gotten to see it at night one time but it was beautiful. We are going again in a couple of weeks and I am going to try and make sure we stay until dark.
