Where do you prefer to live? Large City? or Small Town?

The largest town I have ever lived in was a town of less than 3000 people. Currently I live in a town of around 1000. Recently I have been seeing a trend to people moving into town. Mostly coming from larger cities in California, and Washington. The town just passed approval of a new 27 house development here. In the same token, over the years I have had personal friends (in a town this size, everyone is a personal friend hahaha, sometimes a bit too personal) that have come here from the cities talk of getting out of here and back to the cities as soon as possible. Most of them do exactly that. Is the local trend that I see here becoming more common? People wanting to get out of the fast pace of city life? Or is it just as common for people wanting to leave the boredom of the laid back life to delve back into the fast lane?
I'll be quite interested to hear what you think.

I prefer to live in a large city because I like the amenities like shops, activities etc. I lived in Paris and then Montreal and now I am living in Northern California. Paris and Montreal are two big and very active cities. Oh I also like big cities because they are cosmopolitan. I love when I see people from all over the world in one place! Now I am married to an American and came to live in Northern California. But the city I live in is a small one. I would love to live in San Francisco but it's too expensive there. Sonoma country is still expensive and I just hate it. You can not get around without having a car. Shops are too spread out.
We were lucky to sell our house on this down market and we are moving on the third of July. We will be in Denver for few month and then we will definitely move to Hawaii. I am very happy that I am done with this small city.
Maybe I feel this way because I live far away from home? But I do think that I always loved living in big cities.
Take care kingri.

I live on an island called Saipan, although I am not too sure about the population I can honestly say that it is a small place. I enjoy being here although it is pretty small, it’s not too big! There are a lot of people here about 65,000 (just an estimate).
The good part about living here on a small island is that the crime rate here is very low. I take pride in that because we are a close knit community. I like the fact that my kids can play outside freely without worrying about them being kidnapped or harmed! Don’t get me wrong there are some really bad people here, but our culture is really strong and the beliefs we share overrule almost everything. In fact, the little crime that does take place here is (mostly) committed by outsiders.
There are times when I feel like I want a change and think about moving to the United States to seek a better life but honestly, I am afraid! There are so much worse things happening around the United States, that I wouldn’t feel as safe as I do here.
I would rather stay here in the small community that I live in, than moving to a huge city or state. I am pretty sure that other places are just as beautiful, but the only thing that concerns me is the safety of my children and me.
