If your are the bread winner and your parnter is not working do you expect them to keep the house clean, cook (once a week), or misc. Or is this an unreal expectaion.

It depends on the circumstances but I don't think it is an unrealistic expectation. My Husband doesn't work and I have 2 jobs. He does most of the cooking, about half of the washing up and some cleaning, but the reason he doesn't work is that he was in an accident just after we got married and he has a back injury, so he has some good days and some bad days and hates not being able to work. However, if there is nothing wrong with your partner I would be expecting them to do about 70 to 80% of the housework.

I can understand that my step dad had a back injury also and it took a while to find something he can do.

I'm a homemaker! My husband works outside the home. Being a homemaker is a job. You are actually really working for pay if you think about it. I clean the house, do the laundry, and pretty much everything else that is involved with the house. Well, except for the maintenance. I believe that if I'm not working outside the home, then I should be cleaning the house. Why not? I'm not doing anything else.

I am sorry I didn't mean to offend. I have been a home maker my self and I understand its a job in its self but I do agree.

Everyone's expectations are different, but i would say that yes it is kind of expected if you're home all day long the home should be tidey and have home cooked meals. But if she's running the streets all day wasting money shopping and getting her nails done. Unless the house is tidey ALREADY. i mean seriously how many times can you clean the house a week. I mean tiding up is different but no one is going to mop and sweep and vacuum everyday. Well unless you have kids. I'm just saying, if i were married and my husband made enough money for me to stay home hell ya i'd expect it of myself to clean and cook and make sure we have groceries and all that stuff. Even though it's a job being a home maker id rather be home doing work than at an office with people i hate and dealing with bull s and all that. Id thank him every day! and i'd thank him by keeping the house clean and having a warm cooked meal on the table as soon as he walked in the door!:)
