Mr (or Mrs? Miss?) God had always been a mystery to me. I could not even explain it to myself let alone to others. Blame it on my confusing conversation with the wise ones (any adult in particular) during my childhood. Here is an exerpt of one of the many pointless discussion the ten-year-old me had with a wise one. Wise one, 'God is omnipresent' Me, ' What is omni....omni....present?' 'It means, God is everywhere' 'Everywhere?' 'Yes, he is everywhere' 'He? How do you know God is a he?' 'There are female gods too' 'So God is human?' 'He resembles humans.' 'Then, how come Ganesha resembles an elephant?' SLAP! Maybe I deserved it. But I was still confused. 'Don't be rude' 'Was I?' 'Yes' 'But I don't understand...' 'You are too young to understand,' this seemed to be the wise one's answer to everything. 'When will I be old enough?' 'You are a very mischevious child' 'No, Im only curious,' I was tempted to say thank you. 'How do you know he is everywhere?' 'We just know' 'Have you seen him? Her? It?' 'Who' 'God...,' like duh! 'No' 'Neither have I. Is he invisible?' 'No' 'So, God is everywhere, can be a he she or it and we can't see him yet he is not invisible?' Now I was really confused. Silence 'Right?' 'Oh, shush. Don't you have homework?' 'I'm done with it' 'Don't lie. God knows if you're being dishonest.' 'Really?' 'Yes. Really.' 'Like Santa Claus?' 'Huh?' 'Santa Claus knows if you have been naughty or nice' 'Yes, yes...like santa claus,' wise ones will usually get exasperated by now. 'So...Santa Claus is God?' 'No!' 'Why not?' 'He is not real' 'So God is like Santa Claus, except God is real and Santa Claus is not...?' This is when the wise ones will pretend to ignore me. What is God? Who is God? Confusing? You bet!
