We are currently researching about this idea for our thesis research. Instead of using a card to get money from the ATM, you use your right thumb. Any comments, suggestions on how to improve or violent reactions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You're planning to use biometrics to access atm accounts. Well, that's great. But main issue here will be security. Usually, biometrics is used to access secured places such as vaults, houses, etc. What I'm trying to say is, atm booths are considered public places. Anyone can walk in and out of an atm booth. Have you seen the movie National Treasure? There is a scene there where Nicholas Cage used a thumb mark printed on the glass so he could bypass the security.
So, I suppose there would still be pin codes after you use your thumb and let's say it's more secure than the existing card system. If that's the case it will make atm cards obsolete. But the question is, will banks go for it? You must establish a enough reason and make sure they'll benefit from the new system, your system. Try answering these questions:
1. What is the difference between magnetic card system and biometrics? Which is more secured?
2. What are the exact benefits for the bank owners?
3. How much would it cost to upgrade the existing system to your system (considering the new software to be used, the cost to upgrade each atm machine and the implementation of the system in general)? Will the upgrade be worth it? If yes, how?
Good luck to your project!

Nope! I just had my thesis and based on my experience, the easiest thing is creating the system. The most difficult is documentation. It gave me a headache that lasted for a week.
Although it's pretty obvious you're well aware of your research, but if you needed any comments or suggestions, feel free to ask and I'll try my best to help. :-)

Thanks for your help! What's your thesis by the way if you don't mind me asking. I also want to know how come you didn't face so much problems with the implementation of your system. I assume your in the I.T. course also right? What's your specific course and school if you don't mind me again asking.

I think this technology would be great. Maybe the next question is how safe and reliable is this technology because in the GSIS experience, changes in the state of the thumb (especially if it is winter) could hamper the system ineffective. Maybe there could be no problem here in this tropical country. Maybe if they can perfect this technology this could be very much useful.

it is a very good technology.using a finger print in atm it will be a more security than the cards.you mentioned that using only right fingerprint.suppose if a person lost is hand/finger then he will being using it so try to overcome this problem.so make everything in positively.
