Does your dog(or cat) eat bees?

It may seem like a silly question but I am very serious about this. I hate bees and I run away from the them. One got in my house yesterday. I ran and hid in the bathroom. After I calmed down and came out, I could not find the bee. Its not likely that he got back outside. I think the dog ate him or maybe even the cats. My daughter-in-law told me that her dog eats bees all the time. So, does your dog or cat eat bees? Do they ever chase them around or bat at them? Does anyone else flip out when a bee gets into the house?

Of course I will be careful hun. But I want to tell you what Charlotte did the other day with a bee. She kept knocking it to the ground with her paw until I could get something to swat the bee with. It was so cute, almost like she was protecting me.

OMG—are you allergic to bees?? Is that why you run around and hide? Lol… I swell up terribly- I don’t run from them- I swat them with a swatter or swoosh them away from me. My dog eats them- I try to bat them away from her- You’d think she would learn. She has gotten stung in the mouth several times but still goes after them- Quite possible that your dog did-

My old dog (now dearly departed) used to always eat wasps, and she never ever learnt despite constantly getting stung in her mouth by them, which apparenty can be really dangerous for them. Unfortunately I don't think there's really much you can do about it though. And for your fear, this might not help much, and I don't knoe if anyone else has already said it but bees won't sting you unless they have to as when they do they die...I realise that might not help much though if you freak out at the sight of them, but might help to get a bit of a rational perspective

My dog has a taste for bees as well. Actually, she has a taste for any bug that buzzes past her. She's got eating them down to an art form, and I think she's found a way to get the stinger out before she eats them...maybe she bites it in half? Regardless, she's only been stung once in the several years she's been doing it, and as far as I know she's still doing it. As for bees getting into my house, I can't say I'd flip out, but I would want it out immediately. I've never been stung before, but I have reason to believe I'm allergic to bees because both my father and my brother are allergic. This is enough of a reason for me to want to keep my distance from a bee whenever it gets close.

Hi Brenda, I am with you...I hate bees as well. I cant even count how many times I have been stung. :( I dont have a dog right now, but my old dog used to do this all the time. He would actually chase them around outside and in the house if they got in. He never even seemed to get stung. If he did ...he held it in well. cheers,

I do a Major Flip-Out and just stand back and say in a very calm voice, "hospital, hospital, hospital", as I am very allergic. Once anyone heres me saying that they rush pretty quickly to remove the bee/wasp. I know that my cat would chase them but I don't think may dog would. We have these disgusting creatures in our basement in the summer called "camel crickets" and a few occasionally sneak upstairs. Charlie the Cat loves it when that happens. Since he is an indoor cat this is his chance to be the Mighty Warrior that he craves.

Sorry I am very delayed in responding to this, but all five of us at home have been sick. I am not aware of any of my dogs & cats eating bees. It would frighten me if they did. Especially for the cats, who may have a bit of a chew before the swallow. Would there be any allergy problem, or a severe reaction? I remember one of my cats when she was very young, was a great hunter. She would bring in all sorts of "things". Once, she brought in a large huntsman spider & I had to get it out of her mouth. Yuk!

Only one of the dogs goes after them and I think that's because he is still considered a puppy. Most of the time it starts out as a game, he hits them with his paw, chases it around and tries to play .. when he ends up killing it, the thrill is gone. I don't think I have ever seen him eat one but I can't be sure. One of the older dogs learned his lesson and got stung on the leg by one after he "played" with it. Now they all sit there and watch 'the pup' have his fun but you KNOW they are all thinking, "Watch this fool get bit"

I'm not really fond of the little critters myself. But at least I've learned to stop slapping at them when they get close to me. A bee got into my house about a week ago, and my cats looked at me like "well, mom, aren't you going to kill it?" LOL My dogs are out in the back yard as they love to chase the cats so they are kept separated. My big dog, Buddy, loves to snap at the bees when they get close. And when he catches one in his mouth, the look on his face is so comical. He looks all proud of himself until he gets a taste, and then he can't spit it out fast enough. I don't think he's ever gotten stung either. (yet! LOL)

I hate bees! It does not matter what kind they are. I run from them. There was a time when one got came into the house I was living at. That was terrible. I am thinking that if cats and dogs eat bees, don't they get stung?

Yes, I have one daschund that will eat bees, wasps, june bugs, all kinds of bugs. I think it is hilarious to watch him go after a wasp! It is like he knows they are going to sting him, so he bites at them sideways, with his eyes closed, and growling all the time. He just keeps going back and going back and nipping at them until he kills them. He also did this to a crawdad after a really hard couple days of rain. I hate bugs, so I am really glad that he gets them when they are in the house.

I would think that wouldn't be the best thing for a dog to do... thankfully my dog doesn't do this (as far as I know).

I tend to freak out when my cats chase bugs and especially bees. I hate to get stung. It is funny to watch Itty chasing the bugs outside. She jumps up so high and often times misses, but when she does manage to get one, she eats it.

My dog eats ants and other small insects, but I never saw him eating bees, how can a dog catch flying bees? I don't know whether cats can reach bees.

I have never heard of this lol..I have seen animals like dogs and cats eat flies but I haven't seen them eat bees..I think this is quite funny..I am thinking maybe they bees would sting the dog once entering the dog's mouth..Or does it die instantly? I am quite curious about that. Hasn't the dog been bitten by the bees at all?

I don't have any pets but my moms dog eats bees and wasps. He finds the nests for her LOL! And then she will go and spray the nest at night when they are asleep. I do not know why dogs do this it is weird to me.

I don't have a dog, let alone a dog that eats bees, but I remember distinctly that when I was about 9 years old my grandfather had a dog named Oscar who ate bees all the time. He'd jump up in the air and catch them in his mouth. It never seemed to effect him adversely, but it sure did make my sisters and I laugh. If he wasn't eating bees, he was riding around on the lawnmower. He was a memorable character.
