I think that as long as the cloth is only moist or damp, it is perfectly fine to clean most parts of your computer (like those on the exterior). You certainly wouldn't want to use a wet cloth, even for the outside. For the inside parts, using a can of air is much better, because you don't want any water or moisture to get on the circuitry.

If the surface which you are cleaning is fiber or plastic or anything not related in any way to electric connection or any chip then its perfectly ok. Just take care that the water doesn't drops out when you are cleaning the keyboard as the water may down underneath and enter into the jumps under the keys. There is no problem even applying direct to fiber parts if you separate them from the electronic part. I once held my keyboard under shower!

Yess...i think the outer surfece of computer can be cleaned with moist cloth...infact it can be only cleaned properly with the moist cloth....well inside of the computer....i mean inside cpu...you can use any paint brush can remove dust......and then put ur cpu in front of any dry cooler or blower.....so that all the dust may fly away...

Words of experienced people can be taken for granted. Any way I do not use a moist cloth to clean my computer. I use any old and soft Tshirt of mine to clean the computer. There won't be much stain, only dust. It can well be cleaned by a dry cloth. Then if you find some particular stain you can apply a moist cloth on that part only. I do it that way. This is really a good subject. Many peopple may have the same doubt. Thank you thefuture.

I don`t know if it is proper but this is the way I do it also. My computer is old and I do it this way for ages and it looks quite ok to me. They do sell all kind of cloth and sprays to clean computers but I have never spent money on these. I use a damp cloth with a little dishwashing detergeant and it works just fine for me. Happy mylotting.

I don't think it's safe. The scratches that you can get from using a normal cloth to wipe the monitor.. Isn't worth the $$ you need to replace the monitor. It's not that expensive to buy proper monitor cleaning wipes anyway. And if you really want to save even more. Instead of using the whole piece, use a scissors and cut the wipe into a smaller piece :)
