Can you have your teeth cleaned at the dentist while you're pregnant?

I've heard that dental care is especially important for pregnant women, as the teeth can affect overall health of both mom and baby. But, I'm concerned that it may not be safe to have any type of dental work done during future pregnancies. Does anyone know the rule about dental work during pregnancy? What about X-Rays?

Lat time I was pregnant I need work at the dentist and he wouldnt do anything, I had to have a temporary filling without anesthetic because he would not take the risk of giving it to me. He really would not give xrays either...He just said the risk is too high for anything to get done..I suppose that really just does care and not only there for the money.

I would think so! Sounds like you have a very caring dentist, to not want to put your unborn baby in harms way like that. You got a keeper!

When I was prego I went to the dentist a few times. They had to do some xrays so they just put two of those heavy guards on me. I don't know what they are called but I think you know what I mean. I had a filling filled too. I was very early in my pregnancy though. I was supposed to get a root canal done but the dentist wanted me to wait until after I had the baby. I think it would be okay to have a cleaning done though.

Shoo! This is the weirdest question and something that I have never really given much thought to. I think that it is not good for the X-rays part but the cleaning would not be a problem I don't think. Any other dental work I would think is a no-no... But I am not clued up on this at all and could be under correction here...

Getting your teeth cleaned during pregnacy is fine. Wear the guards while getting x-rays. Your teeth and gums might be sensitive however, and you might notice quite a bit of bleeding, more than normal, that is. This is common. Because of hormones, your sensitivity is increased, so it happens!
