My dad had to have an operation on his shoulder yesterday. It has turned out to be a bigger operation than they thought it would be. The problem is that he has been on crutches for 7 months due to a stress fracture in his leg. It has taken so long to heal as he had polio when he was a toddler, and his leg is like a stick. This in turn has caused the problems with his shoulder. They are now saying he cant use his crutches. I have told him that he needs to stay in until he is able to get around. My mother isnt a well person, so cant look after him. I cant get down till next wednesday, but my sister in law has gone up today to help. But, physically, we arent much use to him, but can help around house and getting things.
My parents are very proud people, and dont like asking for help, as they are also stubborn, but there is help they can get.
I just hope my father's shoulder heals quicker than his leg. I feel that the hospital should make sure that he is well enough to go home and that things are in place for him. He is in a private hospital, so they shouldnt have a problem with him staying until he is well enough to get about.

Hello friend. I´m sorry to hear about your father, and hope He recovers well. And as you say, they should not let him go home until he´s fit for the fight. The hospitals shore let patient home to soone. I agree about that. I often se this in my work. When some of our older people have to go to hospital, they come back to soone and we get more work to do for their recovery. That can also lead to sometimes early deth unnessery. But, sometimes I feel it´s unnessery to send old people to hospitals to, becouse of their age. If someone are over a 100 years old, why bother.

Thanks for your kind words. I am hoping he gets better soon. I take it you must work in aged care. I used to as well. I didnt agree with a lot of things there. They always sent them home too early from hospital and it made a lot of extra work, and it was terrible watching them suffer.
Best wishes to you, anetteh, and thanks for your response

Thanks, Terry for your kind words and wishes. It is great to have the support and words from fellow mylotters. He does seem to be in quite a bit of pain, but he says it is worse when he has to do exercises that they get him to do. But they must be done.
Best wishes to you, and thanks for your response

Oh Kay, I'm sorry your Dad is in this position. I daresay his shoulder became fracture through too heavy use of the crutches. His shoulder would be taking the brunt of the weight.
It must be difficult when you have your own family and your hubby working away, but it seems as though your sister will muck in and help out and I hope things are back to normal quite soon. You parents should never be afraid to help... they've contributed towards any help they might get, so it's nothing to be ashamed of to ask.
Brightest Blessings and get well soon wishes to your Dad. xx

Lol.. it rained all day today! But, never mind, I'm quite an optimistic person who doesn't tempt fate, and it seems to be getting better, and warmer, so it shouldn't be long now before our summer gets here.
That's handy that you're house sitting just around the corner from your parents. It will be great to be able to pop around and help out when needed. Maybe a little pool therapy would help your Dad, as long as he doesn't try to run before he can walk, so to speak. I hope he gets better soon. You're all in my thoughts. xx

Thanks Darkwing, for your kind words. It is a hard time, but i am sure it will all work out. Yes, the crutches have caused the problems. It is very hard for him though because usually he is a very active person. One of his big loves is swimming, and it has been so long since he has been able to swim. The doctor told him he would get him better for the masters games later this year, but now i am not sure if he will make it. My parents live down near where my husband is working, so when i go down, we will be lucky to be able to spend time together. I will be down there for nearly 2 weeks, as it is holidays for the kids. I am also lucky enough to be looking after a friends house for most of that time and it is only around the corner from my parents. I cant stay with my parents, cause the kids are a bit much for them, but i will spend a lot of time there.
Thanks so much for your response, Darkwing, and best wishes to you. Hope the sun is trying to come out for you

Oh gosh Kay, that is a bit of a worry. How is your Dad coping...and your Mum? Are they fretting? At least they have family who are ready to lend a hand and sometimes with older folk you need to be a bit pushy. I so hope he gets to stay in for a while. Have you spoken to the hospital staff. Let them know that you feel it would be best if he stayed. Sometimes these days they turf patients out too quickly because they need the beds. Best wishes to you friend. xx

Sorry to hear about your dads condition. What he is suffering through is unimaginable. Since he wouldnt be able to use his clutches that would make his impossible to move. Why dont you get a wheel chair, wont that be of a greater help to your dad, as his shoulder wont be stressed by a wheel chair as much as it would have dont incase of clutches.

I am sorry to hear about your dad. I hope they will keep him in until he is fully recovered, unfortunately these days they don't seem to do that. They might because he is in a private hospital. Good luck!

Im sorry about the condition of your father. I pray to God for the quick healing of your father. Let God bless him, so that, he can get well so soon and take a walk with you and your family in the beach and have fun.
I understand, it will be so sad for one to see his/her parent suffer from some disease. But you have to console yourself. God bless your father. I believe all Mylotters will join the prayer.
