Life long learning contributes to the development of society through the achievement of other social goals, such as social participation, ameliorated health and wellbeing, reduced crime and greater social cohesion etc. There are four key sets of factors dtermine people's participation in learning:
-individual perception and attitude towards learning;
-social environment;
-institutional context;
-economic and financial context.
