In the last two years I have cleared lots of clutter from my home, had a new bathroom and had a new kitchen put in. I am just about to sort out my garden. The biggest mess in my home is the things up the loft. I will leave that until last. Is your home exactly how you would like it to be? What are you sorting at in it at the moment? Is there anything you are dreading sorting out in your home?

Not even close. Oh, it is still a wonderful house, and we love it, but more projects always loom on the horizon. Currently? Clean out the garage, weed the flower garden in the front, move the rest of the herbs into a new bed, leaving the old bed to the dillweed, move the walking onions to a new bed, leaving their old bed to the chives. And those are just the projects that don't require money. For the ones that require money, we want to make some changes to the bathrooms. Currently they are carpeted. We want to rip out the carpet and install tile. The shower stall in the main bathroom needs a bit of work. The wallpaper edging has been partly ripped down by the five-year-old, so needs to be replaced. A couple of doors need repair... And then there's the long-term stuff. I'd like to add a sun-room for seed-starting. We have a huge upstairs closet. I'd like to put in a dormer, add a couple of outlets and extend the heating duct into it to make it another room. We'd also build a small closet in the room that this closet supposedly services.

Thanks for your excellent response. You have a clear idea of the projects you have planned for your home. I thought sorting out the shower room would be quick and cheap but it has taken ages and cost quite a lot.

No since my house is not quite big, I think it was not really arrange and not in good position. Because it was only done by the brains of a carpenter and not an architect or an engeneer. I can say only three people are suit to live in my house and if someone will add to it will be a crowded one. So now did you ever try to imagine how big is my house heheheeh... But at least it is complete with bath, sink and a room in the second floor.

I see it is not so big but I guess the carpenter arranged the floor plan for you very well. In my old cottage that was tiny I had a very short bath, but in this house I now have a full length one. It is really lovely. Thanks for your response.

Hi maximax8, thanks for starting this discussion as I am very fond of building my dream home. I do not like much hi fi home. But a cosy small bungalow separate from the busy city life. And also with a small garden in front of it. I am not know financially so sound to buy such a home but I will do it a day. In my present home also I try to keep it calm and cool from every ends with less possible wastes or mess.

yes at present it is pretty much how I like it. That's cos I just moved in and just completed extensive renovations, completely overhauling the kitchen and two bathrooms. You must be so pleased with your new bathroom and kitchen! but those are also quite expensive, I know from experience. tiling is soooooooo costly! I would like to decorate my home a bit more. it's kinda bare at the moment. but my hubbs likes things plain and simple so we're kinda in a quandary there. and I wouldn't like to put up shelves or display cabinets that don't look nice in the end. that's my conundrum - cheap things are not nice, nice things are not cheap. sigh. :)

Yes, I can see how much delight you have had sorting out your renovations. I hope you feel happy with the way your home looks now. I agree, nice things are usually expensive.

I don't think my house will ever be the way I want it. That would mean me having to do all of the work myself. I can't see that happening in the near future. Hopefully I can keep going room to room and getting rid of stuff.

Good luck with doing all the work yourself. I know a man that took as much as five years to decorate the house he bought.

It is not exactly like i want it to be, but it is not far fromit. We have redeorated the entire flat almost during the 6 years we have been here. I would like a new woodburning owen. The one we have is very ugly and old. We are also going to put down new countertops, new sink and tiles in the kitchen. We have had the tiles a year, but have just not gotten around to fixing the kitchen yet.

Yes, I also buy tiles and then wait a while before getting them fixed up. We have nearly completed the shower room. There it was the uneven floor that needed to be sorted. So it is taking ages. Thanks for your response.

Yes, you have such a large family that a very large house would be good for you to have one day. When things get into a mess it helpful to do some clutter clearing. It must be lovely to have a veranda, both up and downstairs. In my previous home I had a nice upstairs balcony.

My house is not even close to how I want it to be. It's a 2 family, 100+ year old, Victorian style. We had such big plans when we bought it almost 6 years ago. But keeping up with repairs keeps our budget from being able to afford the remodeling type stuff we need/want to do. It seems every other month something major breaks, blows-up or flies off the house (the last problem was a section of roof blowing off in a storm-ugh).

Storms can cause lots of damage. I hope you get that section of your roof sorted out. Victorian style homes can have so much charm. I used to live in part of what used to be a workhouse for the poor. It was built in 1835. Thanks for your response.

We live in a small apart which is located at the third floor of an apartment building... it is very small so i cannot put a lot of furniture and things that i want so that it would look like my ideal home... other than that, my husband prefer to have more space than furniture...so it is kind of a practical home rather than the homey home that most women want...

Your apart must be quite nice because there is not much furniture in it. I guess your ideal home would be large enough to fit in everything that you want. Do you have a nice view? which floor are you on? My sister had a studio flat years ago. That was really tiny. Then her next home was a spacious apart. Now she has four children and a husband she lives in a large house.

Yes, you see roof tops so that is fine. My sister had difficulty getting her babies up the stairs in their pushchairs. She is so happy to live in a house now. It has a small garden for her children to play in.

Well we are in the third floor but the view is not that great since we only see roofs of houses... but at least it is not hot there because of the wind..

Sorry,i regret that my home is full of mess.My husband often says my home is just like a refuse dump.i go to work very early and come back for supper in the evening..After doing these, what i only wanna do is to lie down and relax. i imagine that my living room is clear and everything is placed where they would be... If i am free at weekend,my house will be swept.Maybe it will come true.

Hi maximax8! My house is not exactly as I would like it to be...as soon as I able to actually get the home I would like, then I will make it how I would like it to be. I like minimalist design in homes. So maybe some of my own paintings on the walls and very little else in the way of ornamentation. The bathroom is very important as I love to spend so much time in there! My dream is to move overseas, but for now I will settle for a coastal town near me.

It will be wonderful for you to have your own paintings on the walls of your home. I have two large tropical style pictures in my lounge. In the hall and bedrooms I have framed copies of my photos of places I have enjoyed visiting. I used to like ornaments but I have got rid of many of these. Yes, a minimalist design of home can look tidy. I also love to spend much time in my bathroom. Moving overseas is a wonderful dream to have. Which country do you hope to move to?
