Comics... Old And New... Do You Still Read Them?

I don't read comics any more, although I used to read the Dandy and Beano regularly. My Dad used to order them for us, and we'd eagerly await their delivery each week with the Daily Newspaper. I loved to read the antics of Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx. They were my two favourites, but I also liked Desperate Dan and his Cow Pie. lol.
As I grew, I stopped reading them, but I used to buy them for my boys and would occasionally take a peek. However, I went on to the Peanuts comic books, with Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Pigpen, Marcie, Schroeder, Sally, Franklin, Rerun,Woodstock and last but not least, the famous Snoopy! Charles M. Schulz certainly captivated a child's life in these books and I found them very amusing.
Do you still read comics of any kind, or do you have some fond memories of comics to share? I think we all read them at some time in our lives and perhaps, still do.

The Twinkle - I loved that comic when I was little! And Jackie when I got older - actually got a chance to see a programme on Jackie the other week and all my memories came flooding back! I still read the kids comics sometimes but there are so many of them now and they just aren't as good! xxx

When I was little, every now and then Mum would take us to "town", town being the city of Sydney, there were 4 of us. We'd travel on the train and we'd each get to buy a comic. My favourites were, Donald Duck, Archie, Betty and Veronica, Richie Rich, Dot Polka and Casper. There were also special treats when we got there. I have no idea how Mum And Dad could afford to do this.

Oh wow, yes, Casper. I'd almost forgotten him. You know, when we were in Germany, I went to the Naafi shop one day and found a small plastic Casper. He had a string inside with a ring on the top and when you pulled it, he'd speak. I bought it for my kids... well, I will only admit it was for my kids. He used to say, "Hi, I'm Casper" "Will you be my friend?""I'm a friendly ghost!""Let's play ghosts!" Ha ha ha... amused me, and them, for hours. Now, my grandchildren love Casper too.
Brightest Blessings.

Nah, I was never a comic reader. So, I never did read then, and I still don't read now.
I prefer solid books.:P

Awwwwwwwww, you don't know what you're missing, Wiz!
Thank you for your input. I like books as well of course, but occasionally, I find the need for a chuckle and the Peanuts books are light, amusing reading. They're not all in comic strips, some are little stories, but still enjoyable.
Brightest Blessings.

I still read them, not as many times as I did but I still like to read them.
I used to love Snoopy, Donald Duck, Asterix, Tintin...
Right now I don't have time to read as I have to study and I usually read other kind of books but I still like comics. It's just a pity that some people still think comics are just for kids.

I'm still one of those most fortunate to still buy and read comics as I love them(sometimes more than my wife...ssshhh! don't tell anyone!) I had fond memories of collecting them as a child later it became obssessive putting them into their neat little plastic bags with backing board to keep them protected for future investments.
Although I have not read the beano or the dandy for years it's all the comics with the superheroes I still read, the fantastic four and spiderman not to mention the x-men, I'm a comic book junkie and plus I love to draw my own comic books so that is also the main reason I buy comics, to keep entertained and inspired and plus the comic book films that are out nowadays, is just fantastic!!

Wow... you did well to save comics in such a neat and orderly way that they don't get damaged. They'll probably furnish you quite well with a "future investment".
You do drawings for comics anyway, don't you, Waynet? You'll have to show me some, one day.
Brightest Blessings.

I do believe that Charles Schultz is one of my favorite cartoonists. I find that Woodstock is endearing. But I personally think I act a lot like Lucy. Some of these characters seem as real as the kids I meet every day and it is easy to believe their antics. I did always wonder where the grownups were, but the secret life of children is intrigueing. I am not familiar with all of the cartoons you mention, but Charlie Brown sure seems to be universal.

Yes, Charles Schultz is a great cartoonist, the way he depicts those kids. I like Woodstock too but I think the most endearing character for me, is probably Linus, with his blanket he drags around. lol.
I believe Charlie Brown's Mum and Dad are in some of the cartoons, from what I remember, but I won't swear by that.
Brightest Blessings.
