Is soy a factor in your diagnosis of PCOS ?

Looking into your diet and really studying the effects certain foods has on your system has shown me that soy, or anything containing soy, is a violent threat to the continued 'growth' of my cyst; however, eliminating it from my diet (as much as humanly possible) has been a great blessing. The cyst is significantly smaller than it was last year and my pain threshold never reaches 6 anymore. So, I am wondering how many of you either eliminate it, continue to use it, or neither because soy is NOT a factor in your diagnosis. I hope to see really thought out responses to this because I am trying to help all women suffering from hormone imbalances that manifest into such disorders. The more information I can receive first-hand is beneficial in keeping on top of this 'dis-ease' so many, many women suffer from. Interesting. Whenever I have consumed a decent amount of soy, I suffer from dreadful abdominal pain. However, this has been the case since I was a kid (starting with a glass of soy milk), so I don't think it's cyst-related. But I wonder whether or not there is something in the makeup of PCOS women that just doesn't tolerate soy very well? Just a thought. Also, I have read that soy is supposed to be of benefit to women, especially those going through menopause - but *if* it's not that great for PCOS women, perhaps the effect is hormonal in nature. Personally speaking, the number of cysts I've developed and the level of pain I've suffered have decreased drastically since my doctor put me on Metformin/Glucophage (1000mg x2 per day). I can live a relatively normal life now, in terms of the PCOS.

Now what exactly does the 1000mgx2 per day of Metformin/ Glucophage do for you? I use a combination of black Cohosh, Wild Yam & Dong Quai mixed accordingly to increase the low Progesterone levels I experience and decrease the high Estrogen surges I get which used to feed the cyst constantly. So I am a curious about the effectiveness and what exactly the synthetic mixtures accomplish ? http://www.enlightenment-psych.net

I never eat soy, but my pain still reaches an 8 on most occasions. I think for me the problem is sugar. I try to cut it out as much as I can, but I still have severe pains. Maybe it's a combination of things for me. I will have to read your article to see if I can figure out a way to change my diet for the better.

Sugar hhhhmmm, let me guess you like the white kind, refined, bleached and probably the worst thing for us right? I switched to raw, unrefined, unbleached natural cane sugar that is coarse and light brown and in granules. The best choice I ever made because I learned my particular cyst, without the refined sugar, will not utilize the metabolization process in which single monosaccharides (single glucose (sugar)) cause growth instead of retardation (decreased growth, close to near dissolve). It has been nearly 18 months since the initial burst, and 17 months and so many days since I quit refined sugar that my weight is impossible to gain back (thank goodness who wants to be 5 ft 6 and 165lbs...) my energy is not so super-grandiose but I am not lethargic either and I bleed only five instead of seven and thankfully not only three which is NEVER ENOUGH for normal cycles. Anyway I am glad you responded and if my article is not enough to give you some more support, consider also reading "Eating According to your Bloodtype" by Peter D'Amo and understanding your bodies' langiage, she does speak you know . . .
