The sanctity of my margarine

Tonight I had to explain to my husband why we have two tubs of margarine in the refrigerator and why he put one back in the wrong place.
I have been married to him for 15 years. His son is 20. Since he was old enough to work the toaster and grab a knife, he has been a defiler of the communal margarine. He burns his toast, on purpose, and then butters it viciously, which requires numerous double dunks in the tub of margarine. Needless to say, he gets it FULL of black bread crumbs. I am not trying to over-react. It just grosses me out big time.
I tried for several years to teach him how to not sully the margarine. I explained how yucky it is to have unintended crumbs in my cooking to no avail.
My solution? I bought two tubs of margarine and wrote his name on one and told him it was his. All in the pursuit of pristine margarine for cooking and my own use.

I can understand why crumbs in your butter would bother you. It does me too. I like your idea and I may try it. I have my doubts that the men in this house will go along with it. They just don't understand. And like Kris mentioned, I too have the problem with the peanut butter in the jelly. It drives me crazy.

My margarine is in one of the vegetable drawers and his is on the shelf. He is too lazy to look in the drawers and I make sure that his always has some in it, so mine is safe.
I totally did it for my peace of mind. Me getting irate wasn't accomplishing anything, so I improvised and worked around it. It has worked for about 7 years now.

That is too funny! But I totally understand, I would do the same thing myself if I was in the same situation. I hate it when I go to open up the mayonnaise, and there are bits of tuna fish in there, since my husband always mixes up the tuna with a tablespoon of mayo. Blech!

What a good idea! We have the same problem at my house, it's crumby to say the least. This is the best idea I've heard yet, thanks for sharing it with us. I'll be buying a separate tub next time I go to the grocery store and marking the top 'toast only.'

It was just causing so much disharmony in my household. I was totally unrealistic. I was attributing malice to a 12 year old for getting crumbs in the butter. Thinking he was doing it on purpose to burn my butt. I now can admit that he didn't do it on purpose. He is just a thoughtless punk who didn't NOT do it on purpose.

A good idea, but will he take any notice of the fact that you've done this and mend his ways. I doubt it very much. Men can be so difficult sometimes... goodness knows why. Perhaps they don't like to be told what to do by us women. It beats me, for sure.
At least you won't have burnt breadcrums in your margarine any more. lol. Brightest Blessings.

lol-- too funny- I think I'm the culprit in our house- I scolded my sig. other years age about transferring the PB to the jelly- I made a hug deal out of it- Now I do it- and he always reminds me- and you thought I was bad- LOL,,, when all along it was me-
Great idea 2 tubs if it bothers you that much!

That's a wonderful idea and I sure hope he remembers not to touch your tub of margarine...My mom, when she was alive used to do the same thing, and she loved her toast burnt to a crisp too, so had the same exact problem..but not just black toast crumbs in the margarine...other "strange" remnants of food would be in the margarine as well...don't ask!! :-(

I sympathize with you. My dad is a good one for getting crumbs in the margerine. It used to drive my mom nuts and now it drives me nuts.I have told him about it a hundred times but to no avail.I never thought about getting him his own tub.
