Am I the only one? Summer time is suppose to be fun-I just get depressed.

My doctor tells me that depression is suppose to be worse in the winter because we don't have the sunlight. That is true for me, but lately, I am finding summer to be depressing. It seems like I can't do things I used to do in the summer which causes depression. I don't have the money like we used to, we used to take a family vacation every year, we went to Disney every other year, now summer just feels like it's something else I am failing at. No fun, no money, and a lot more work that isn't getting done. Anybody else feel like this?

I have depression just like you and one thing about it is doesn't have to be summer ,winter or even fall to get me depressed. It is the situation itself. I understand how you feel not because I'm saying that to say that it's because I'm financially stressed nearly everyday and/or just depressed entirely because it stresses me. Just like you said everything seems to be okay before but all of sudden 'No money = No fun' and yes I've been there so many times my Im only 26 but stress and depression makes me look like I'm old.
So, you are not alone actually 'WE' are not alone. We just haven't met them all.

Your right "we" are not alone. So many people of all ages are depressed today. I am sure people tell you that you are only 26 and you have your whole life in front of you. That doesn't help does it. I'm a lot older, in fact I have a son turning 26 soon. Anyway, everybody tells me, your kids are grown, you've done a good job, you should have nothing to stress or be depressed about. If they only knew. I like your picture of chocolates! Do you share your chocolate?

There's way too much work in life! And not enough money! But I have mellowed each decade of life, it seems, til now, in my 50's I just welcome each day as it comes.. and like to just go with the flow.. easy come easy go.. don't care what's happenin' and what ain't.. Sounds weird, yah say? Well, you're probably right.. but I've learned that 'the path of least resistance' is the best one, along with "the secret to happiness is to be content with things as they are"! That ones' a bit hard to imagine when (if) you're in your twenties.. or maybe even 30's.. But I'm sort of a layback hillbilly type of person anyway so I always did understand that saying.. But I did suffer from lots of depression due to childhoods experiences, so I had to learn to change the habit of my thoughts.. Any negative thought gets replaced immediately with a positive one, until I learned to avoid those well worn pathways of neurons in my brain which led to any dark days, by seeing the warning signs and switching gears. And prayer helped me do that (I have to add). Which was a good thing as depression sucks! It's very painful.
All the best..
:)

I'm not a young'n....I'm in the 40's which they now call the new 30's...lol..I think I've got the my kids don't need me anymore blues. They talk about postpartum after giving birth, well what about living with them and then...poof...they are gone...guess it's called the empty nest. For me, that doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. My baby just got her driver's lic. and now she's always gone. This house just got very large and very empty.

Honey, you are not alone in this. We haven't even been able to afford to get our boat running to go out on the lake for about 5 years now. With me not working, it's making finances pretty tight. And it's so hard watching all these other people take off on their vacations. It really is depressing! So I feel your pain hon. I'm beginning to wonder if this is what the rest of my life is going to be like too. Lordy, I hope not!

I'm sorry you feel like me...it's no fun. How does anybody afford a vacation anymore? When the kids were younger, we took a nice long vacation every summer. This will be the third summer we haven't done that. I thought life was suppose to get better when your older, and easier...HA that was a big joke! Guess your stuck here hanging out with me...you poor soul!

I think that it is a very common problem, and even though they say that it is usually worse in the winter, it isn't always true. I often have the same problem in the summer, especially since I hurt my back. I used to take my family on vacation every year, but since my injury, we stopped going every year. Add the lack of money, and the heat to this, it's no wonder that depression hits. Try to cheer up if you can. If you need help, don't be afraid to go after it.

It's not to bad most of the time with the help pain killers, hot and cold packs, and physical therapy. It is depressing though to not be able to do the things I used to be able to do. Like I said though, we have to do the best we can to keep ourselves cheered up.

I think I can understand how you feel, I was depressed for many years and have had really little money so I have not had what people call vacation for about ten years.
Then I found out, by listening and reading what the scientists say about nutrition and how it affects our brain. It helped me a lot to start taking cold pressed salmon oil with Omega3 and other vegetable oils. You will find more information in my profile.
The most interesting thing is that my thinking has changed and it is now easier to see the things that I am grateful for instead of thinking what I donĀ“t have.
I am now building a network in GNLD and in time it will give a good income. Even very poor people have been able to build an income like that.
Maybe you could get help from the website in my Directmatches profile, I know at least one person who got inspired by the content there.

To be honest, I have trouble in the summer, too. The heat kind of makes me sleepy, and I always feel like the rest of the world is out there having fun while I am sleeping. But then I don't know quite what to do to have fun. And I have trouble focusing, so I get nothing done.
It seems like an endless cycle.

You know what, that's how I feel also. The world is out there having fun while I am sleeping. I also don't know what to do to have fun....focusing...to hard to do. It is an endless cycle. Maybe we should just chat all summer long and try to keep each other spirits up.

Depression can hit anytime and anywhere. Sometimes the idea that summer is supposed to be a "great fun time" can be depressing in itself.
Money problems are one of the greatest causes of depression. I have been looking at ways to make money on the net and hav't found the perfect one yet, but I believe there is a way to supplement my income to make it better.
Try to take it esy on yourself and if need be, see a doctor. Don't try to handle this yourself if it gets to be too much. You are way to important to let depression beat you.

You should try to do more activities with your family. Even if you can't go to Disney, you could go for a walk at the park or maybe join a social club in your community. One thing is for sure... you won't feel any better if all you do is complain about it!!

These are the times that you pull out the picnic baskets, and fishing poles. There are plenty of family related items to do. You just have to get active. If you can't go on a family vacation, maybe you can pick a near by big city and go there for the weekend. I was starting to feel the same way that you do. But may daughter is a ball of excitement. As long as I'm doing something with her she is having fun. We go to the park and ride our bikes. Also we play put put. She really likes that. And more so, I'm in Nashville for the weekend. I drove my own car here and we are staying in a average hotel for three days. I was a bit bumbed that I could not join my extended family in Orlando this year, but I'm finding that there is plenty to do here that is much cheaper than the $75 disney, universal, and epcot tickets. We are having so much fun. I am excited and cant wait to return. Needless to say, we maybe taking 2 family trips next year.

Try to find fun things to do that don't cost anything, go to the public beach, have a picnic in the park, hike in the woods...I often go to McDonalds and buy off the 1.00 menu and we sit by the water and eat, everyone has fun. Another favorite for us is to make sandwiches and lemonade and go to tag sales (just to look). I don't think many working people have a lot of extra money anymore but it doesn't mean we can't have fun. So chin up and make some fun today :)
