I Just want to Know What made you develop this habit? What Motivates you to read any book? Who inculcalted the habit of reading book? Is reading your first preference Or You would prefer doing something else over reading? We all have some or the other reasons or incidents which inspires you to start a hobby or start reading book? I just want to know Whats was Yours?

Hi kayakalp! I am an avid reader. I think what started me to read and to love reading was the book 'the secret garden' (i think thats the title) when i was in 4th grade. I was always a curious kid and I never read anything seriously beside classroom stuff but when I discovered fiction I was amazed that there is another level of learning I can get..that I can travel through my eyes and imagination. When I ran out of books to read I tried reading everything that I can and discovered the same thing. :) I just love to learn new stuffs I guess.

I can't quite remember when or how I started reading. I guess my love for books (or any reading material for that matter) was triggered by the ubiquity of these materials at home. My parents once subscribed to Reader's Digest and I loved reading them even if they were already old issues. I loved going to the school library and spent my free time tehre. I guess once I discovered that I could be imaginatively stimulated and I can go to far away places by just reading, I got hooked on the hobby. Up to now I still collect children's literature. I think once you have a good reading background as a child, it'll carry on into adulthood.

Yes, it is indeed a sad fact that children these days aren't given a chance to explore the wonderful world of books since they have so many other distractions such as tv and the internet. There should be a way to encourage them to read books...the Harry Potter series somewhat revived the interest of children in books, though.

I was about six or seven, and my father purchased a few 'comics' for me, helped me understand, and then brought some story books a little later. By the time I was 10, I was addicted to books and started buying them, exchanging them, going to the school library, public and private libraries to read as many books as I could. I remember that I created a record of a sort among friends - I read five Enid Blyton books in one day once when I was about 12. I think over the past 40-41 years must have read over 5000 books. Books are a window to the world and beyond, as well books helps me align my thoughts, help me understand myself and other people and things better. The ideas in my mind are an amalgamation of the ideas of various humans' ideas, and this has probably helped me look at things from a different perspective, may even different from the ones that the authors had. I like surfing the net for knowledge besides still continuing to reading paper books, and I think that reading and gaining knowledge on the web is just an extension of reading books.

I read becouse knowege is power. And learning is the natural state of life. Many people refuse to learn anything that is uncomfortable or chalenges there belief systems. They become ignorent in their knowlege and stagnet in their growth as human beings. I am only sorry I wasnt born a few thousand years ago so that I could have read all the books (scrolls) of the Alaexandrean Library. What knowlege was lost to us perhaps for all time What engeniering marvels could they have given us. And too the mayian text destroyed by the Catholic Missionaries becouse they were thought to be "Evel". One of the biggest crimes aganst humanity next to genicide has been the burning and destruction of knowlege. People are so much happier stumbeling around in their ignorance and with their lofty heads in the clouds declearing how unlearened and foolish those who don't beleive as they do are. and in their stupidity have left the rest of the world in their darkend "utopia".

Heu Seoguy... Thanks for your reply.... When I read that catholic missionaried had burn many books...even I felt very disgusted...they burned many books on science as well...can u imagine how irritating it is to know that there were so many people who lead their life to gain the knowledge and pass it on to next generation and few zealout cult people wasted it for nothing....its lost forever...

my grandfather taught me to read and write but my love for reading books i got from my father. i grew up with him reading pocketbooks to me... eventually, when i learned how to read i started with comic books and then later paperbacks. i'd read all my dad's pocketbooks which are mostly action / detective / suspense or my mom's which are romance pocketbooks.

I started reading as a result of the reading groups that we had in school. I would say that sometimes reading would be my first preference. It just all depends on what mood I am in.

I started reading pocketbooks when i was 12. It has been a fad those days. A lot of my classmates are reading pocketbooks so i tried one. At first i just like reading archie comic books then i switched to teen pocket books like sweetdreams, sweet valley kids, twins, high and christopher pike books. Then one of my friends recommended reading novels so i started with Judith mcnaught and later on switched to inspirational books like og mandino.

Many reasons for me. First, I have no option but to read my homework, that was when I am still at school. My motivation then was to fininsh well my studies. Reading was not my first preference before. I f I had a choice then, I just wanted to watch movies and TV, eat in the fastfoods perhaps, go out to the mall and stuff like that. But to get to your point, I admit there was something that motivated me to read a lot of books. To name a few are truth, wisdom, pursuit of higher knowledge, curiousity and satisfying my mind from many issues popping up on it. But there is one book that really trigger me to read books that become my obsession because top tell you frankly I'm not fond of reading books. That book is that written by Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas entitled "Hiram Key". I found out from there that everything of my interest can be found from the books available readily.

Great topic! I started reading at a very early age (3) so reading has just been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother and aunts would read tons of books, usually romance novels and the like, and then swap boxes every other month. I also remember an older cousin that I really looked up to who was really into classical everything and she got me into reading older books and poetry. The kind of book I read depends on the things going on in my life and my mood as well as when I want to learn something new. What inspired you?

I was not good at my english in my eighth grade. My english teacher gave me some fairy tales and asked me to read those books. Then she used to ask me questions about it and i had to answer in english. Like that my habit of reading and speaking developed and i am thankful to her.

Since i was in 2nd grade. I used to read all the time, it was my leisure activity, however nowdays due to a busy lifestyle and with the internet, books don't have much of an impact in my time unfortunately. Although I do try to when I can.

I started reading books to develop my vocabulary skills and knowledge. Sometimes when I pick up a book and it is really good, I end up not putting the book down because it is really interesting. Sometimes, i get bored of reading and I prefer to watch TV or do other things.

I became interested in books when I was very very young. My dad read chapter books to me and my brothers each nite always leaving off at a suspenseful spot. When I was five, I was injured badly and was unable to walk for several months. During that time both he and my mom read to me even more. I could not wait to learn to read!! I read a variety of books and always have a good book handy. Reading is perfect for preventing boredom and impatience in so many situations.I also have many other hobbies and interests that serve the same purpose.
