i'm 47 and have only been a christian for a few years now... and am still fighting the good fight of trying to get rid of the sin in my life... which of course is impossible as we ARE human beings. but... to answer this question... i love christian music but... i also love metal and rock and movies i probably shouldn't like and all that.
you have to keep things in perspective, give God your faith and trust, and if you're having a metal day, then pop in the metal. that's how i see it. :-D

Do you really do what Jesus would do, or even what you THINK Jesus would do? Whats the judgement (since you christains are so big on judging everything). You think Jesus would listen to Sublime? I think he might, and if it wasnt his thing, I doubt if he would Judge you if you did.
I laugh sometimes when I see people with those WWJD things because most of them don't do what Jesus would do, not even close.

I'm a Christian and I listen to a ton of music that, lets just say, my pastor probably wouldn't approve of. There is a lot of good Christian bands out there, from rap to heavy metal. Another great alternative is bands like Muse and Modest Mouse, who don't have offensive lyrics, they're on the "alternative" side.
Rap:
Toby Mac, Grits, KJ-52, John Ruben, Family Force 5
Rockish:
Muse, Modest Mouse, mewithoutYou, Starfield, Casting Crowns (more rockish worship), Relient K, Switchfoot, Leeland, Cool Hand Luke, The Fray, Elvis, Family Force 5
Heavy Metal:
Project 86, August Burns Red, Norma Jean, Underoath, Flyleaf, As Cities Burn, The Devil Wears Prada, Family Force 5
Those are some of my favourites, but of course there's a ton of good music out there, you just have to find it. A great way to get good music is to head out to a Christian music festival. Some big ones are Creation Fest (Northeast and Western, http://www.creationfest.com), Purple Door (Lewisberry Pennsylvania, http://www.purpledoor.com).
Hope that helps!

The world is full of things you won't agree with or condone. If you want to distance yourself from all of it, be prepared to never leave your house again. Relax, dude. The way you're talking is the most comprehensive reason why most people eventually give up on Christianity. Get over yourself and you'll figure out that you can love Jesus and play your guitar like a mother-f*ing riot.
Peace-out!

I dont think you have to condone what the lyrics are if you dig the beat and the rythym man. I am a lover of ALL music ie: Classical, Metal, Jazz, Country, Rap, Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae, etc, etc, etc and I to am a Christian, maybe not the best one on Earth, maybe even the most liberal one on Earth but I do believe in Jesus Christ and I do believe in God, but I still listen to Slayer or Pantera or Sublime or KISS because I dig the tunes man, I dont listen to it for a point of view and my music's lyrics do not define me. Keep rockin and prayin, its ok to do both bro! God Bless.

Christian is what's in your heart, NOT what's in your CD collection. You bought into the 10 commandments... anything added after that was put there by people... stuffy people with the intent to make everyone as miserable as they are. If you like Sublime, keep listening! It's good stuff... Go back to Sublime's influences... Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley and the wailers, Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker... If your religion is going to dictate your music preferences, then you're in it for the wrong reasons.

I agree with Lovecatz. I believe in God but I also love rock and roll. I also don't agree with a lot of the things Sublime sings about but I don't think it makes me a bad person for listening to it. As long as you have the judgment to tell right from wrong you'll be ok.

Do you really think God or Jesus cares what kind of music you listen to? Free will of choice, who judges (if you believe in judgement, which I peronally dont). Do you think that there is any lyrics God doesnt know? God is everything and everyone. Do you prefer, your, lungs or your heart over one another, no because they are both part of you and 1 part cannot be without the other. The sin is not utilizing Gods greatest gift, the gift of choice, no choice is better than the other, only different. One energy, one god, one love, you are not seperate, even though you think you are because thats what you've been taught to believe. The sooner you christains stop thinking that you are 1. seperate 2.better than everyone else, 3. at certainly not least, stop trying judge everything, the physical world would be a better place. You want to know what you should be doing, ask your soul, it knows what it wants (Those who dont go within go without). Dont think so much, just be, most of all be happy, I think thats what god wants. I can listen to 40 oz to freedom and not want to drink,or April 14 1994 without wanting to through a riot, not because I've been told I shouldn't, but simple because I dont desire that, but if I wanted to, it wouldnt be wrong. I'm listening to sublime right now, just for you. Dont take me wrong, I'm convinced Jesus was a great guy, but Jesus and the Chritain church are too different things, the words are there but they're twisted. Open your mind, open your heart, be true to yourself, because being true to yourself is being true to god. All that being said I think I'm going to listen to Smoke 2 Joints and enjoy another one of Gods' wonderful gifts. R.A.L.P.H. ( respect, acceptance, love, peace, and harmony). If Im wrong, and I go to hell for listening to Sublime, at least it will be for my choices, not someone elses, and Ill be smoking with Bradley and alot of other great souls. Peace
