My husband and I had a large amount to pay the IRS this year. Today received a letter to find that they want another $400 and we don't have long to pay it. Who do you dread the most? Anyone have suggestions to reduce IRS stress? The forms are so unclear that its hard to know everything you can write off and what causes people to be audited. Any tips appreciated, as I'm just a middle class citizen trying to help my daughter get through college and sure feel like I'm paying several salaries at the IRS.

I am sorry to hear that momma,
i am trying to think if there is any association or a place that could help you and your husband with that.
Even to go through all of your irc papers and to see why they are demending such a large amount each time.
Maybe there is a mistake, or another way to do this.
I do hope that everything will be alright.

Thank you for the reply. We are challenging the figures that the IRS wants us to pay. I will be posting again when the matter is solved. Thanks for your well wishes.

My husband just got hit with an IRS bill a few months ago that was due to how his 2005 forms were filed. We apparantely got a bigger return than we were entitled to and now have to pay the balance back, which is not a small amount. If you have a large family and a moderate income for your household size you may be able to get a payment plan. Since we are a family of seven and he is the only one working we were able to qualify. However, even though we don't have to pay the entire amount in one lump sum, the interest still piles onto the full amount, which means by the time we pay it off it will be well over what we actually owe. I think when it comes to the IRS we just have to grin and bear it. When it comes to taxes we're pretty much screwed. Good luck!

Have your taxes done by professions is the solution. Most state that the amount they say you pay is gauranteed and if more then they will pay it. They know what can and can't be used as deductions etc. Granted it's an added charge to have them done but it is also a headache and stress saver. We have ours done every year at H&R Block and no problems yet in about 20 years of using them.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We plan to have them done by somebody else next year. Its hard to believe that we could have these problems, as we didn't itemize this year. We are challenging the figures, as they are saying we owe capital gains tax and we didn't sell a house or land and the income listed is wrong, so am certain this bill is not ours. I think the IRS just expected us to quietly pay and that isn't going to happen now. Thanks for the reply and going to call H&R Block. I wish we had used them, but guess we needed this wake up notice.

I hope your problem is solved by now, but those seeking help may want to know there are lots of agencies that can help you get out of the tax debt trap. Find one that is located in the neighborhood, or go find one that is reputable somewhere else. Hey, there is a website where you can find all those IRS tax information tips - http://IRStaxInformationHelp.weebly.com
