I live in California-USA where there is no smoking in any public facility-restaurants, bars, bowling alleys....however smoking is allowed on Native American land and they own nearly all the casinos here in california.

Well, I am a smoker, but it doesn't bother me. I choose to smoke but not everyone does. I used to drink-and that was the only time a wish the law wasn't so strict. When you go to the bar in January it isn't cool to have to stand outside to smoke :) And everyone knows drinkers smoke a lot.....But I since have stopped drinking-and I haven't been to a bar in over 7 months.

It has a lot and we do have heavy fines for thoese who break the laws . At least the recent scheme has make non smokers to enjoy their lunch in their nearby neighbourhood canteen without any smokers around . But in singapore , this still some small smoking corner for smokers but i think it will minimize the harm to non smokers which i think is a good idea

Not just yet. There are some restaurants that won't allow it. Election time is coming up and one of the things on the ballot is to ban smoking in all public places. There is another, smarter solution on the ballot as well. That one is to allow it in certain adult-only places like bars, taverns, as well as outside eating areas.

I will soon be moving from PA to NY and I know that for the entire state of New York smoking in public places (even bars) is forbidden and carries heavy fines.
I like this rule a lot because smoke REALLY bothers me and I usually have to leave the room so I can get a breath of clean air.

Yes, It is banned in South Africa.
Most cities have non smoking signs. In the beginning it was bad, smokers were not allowed to smoke in public places. Restaurants also. Now a days, there are designated areas in restaurants and its now the norm it has two sections - smoking and non smoking, choice is yours.
Shopping centre are a no no , but you get smokers in the toilets. and in the streets....So its not banned altogether.
Wonder were it will lead to from here?

Yes, I believe Toronto was one of the first places in North America to begin banning smoking in restaurants and bars. Now they are talking about creating laws that people can't smoke in their cars if they have kids.

I live about 2 hours outside of Seattle. So far as I know in my town, we can't smoke within 25 feet of the entrance of a public place. The main street in my town is mainly a strip of bars, so you can imagine the frustration in trying to find a place to smoke while drinking, haha!

In Norway smoking has been baned in public places since 2004. Even though I sometimes smoke, I celebrate the non smoking law. It is much more confortable to go out. It is cold to have to go outside to smoke, so when winter comes many people, me included, smoke less. It's a good thing.
