Should childerens age under 18 be allowed to use the internet?

You are right in some ways. But when we cross 14 we become teens. This is time when we teens start to decide things on their own. If they are not allowed to do this now, They will never get to lear this skill later and this maybe a reason for them making mistakes at a later stage. The aspects you feel that the teens are exposed are validated too. All parents tend to havethis problem. But these stuff are done only by a minor group of people. There are many other students who use internet is a basis of study, they will be affected. As you say they can be allowed with an adult supervision. But this situationbecomes impossible when it comes to more hours than they got to spare. In case of more than one child, this would become impossible. So the best thing the parents can do to trust their child, and it is the duty of every child to respect the parents trust !!!

How are you cool cat,it depends on all people how can manage, since this an era IT somebody not using computer is not good for status. But the user discretion should be taken in to consideration.

The interent can be a dangerous place for anyone but I think its worse for a child because they aren't always aware of bad things. But I believe with proper supervision by a parent, the child should be allowed. I know many kids rely on the internet to get help with their homework and to keep in touch with their friends. A parent just needs to know what their kids are doing.

Only one of my kids go online and I have taught her well. I am proud of how she handles the not so nice people that we meetonline. She also knows not to go meeting anyone since most likely they are not what they have presented. She also has made a few good friends as have I from the folk on the web. We must teach our children from very young and then trust that our leadership has been well done. I am proud of my daughter. I would hope you could be proud of your kids also.

yes you are right childrens under 18 be should not allowed to use the internet.These is beacause nowadays to popular sexsworld many lewed pictures and disturbing images come across in between.

My children have always used the internet. It's an important tool for educational purposes and there are far more good things about the internet than bad. My kids know the rules and were well supervised when they were younger. My son is eighteen and he is still very careful and my daughter is not allowed to use any computer behind closed doors.

I think that you are right..It should be under adult supervision, there are way to many traps that they can fall into and the amount of cases that you hear about predators targeting kids on the internet is scarey.

I think that children should be able to use the internet, for a variety of reasons. There are a lot of valuable resources for research online, opportunities for learning, and it's a skill they'll need later in life. Of course parental supervision is definitely necessary! I would never let a young child online without being right there with them, and even later on I would want to know what my kids were up to online. There are many dangers whenever you are dealing with strangers, online or offline, so I see supervising kids online the same way as supervising them anywhere else.

The Internet is a place where everyone can be benefited in terms of knowledge if used in a proper manner. Internet is the biggest,cheapest and fastest library one can use. What we should do we should allow to use internet to the kids with proper guidance. I think schools should play a vital role to administer the proper guidance for using internet. Children learn very easily and always want to know more and Internet is a very good source for them. We should allow them to use Internet with a thorough and proper guidance. And also if you are unsure whether your kids are using it properly, you can block some sites by using some softwares which block the particular sites related to keywords (such as you can block all sites with adult keyword). In this way we can give our children a protected and secure use of Internet.

When Internet has become the part and parcel of everyones life, I personally dont think that the Children under 18 should be banned from using the Internet. Even though internet is a very dangerous place, with the availability of Parental control softwares, I think Parents allow the children to use the internet, at the same time, ensuring that they dont get spoiled by the internet. Parents should learn the Parental Control softwares and use them more efficiently to track the usage of Internet by their children. This should help in Children getting comfortable with the internet usage, at the same time not getting spoiled too.

I think they should bee allwed to use the internet. They nead it for the skool work and be in contakt with the frends and as a parent i can and will not sitt with them and check ewery thing they do on the net. I f i think they has surf on sites they sholdent i can check it and then speak with them about it. About the saftey i think it not better if they are going out most of the evnings then i cant knowe anything about wat they are doing.

I think taht children can use the internet, and I personally encourage them to do so. Why? Because the internet is like one HUGE lybrary. If you worry about XXX sites and other things like that, there are a few programs that control that kind of access like: Net-Nanny. And many others.

well i'm 16 and i use it everyday. If yiu talk to your kids about these things and block sites then its safe. My friends computer has stuff like myspace and chat blocked

well anyway internet is a good source of information so i agree that children must use the internet and i agree also that it should have a supervision of an adult... sometimes a good source become a bad source... :)

There are many reasons children should use the internet, both for education and for fun. It is important though that blocks be put in to keep out undesirable materials and web sites. The other good advice is that the computer be in a common family area so that kids do not access bad sites. In our country we have lots of homework and research required on the computer. Yes, we do need to protect our children.

When a child uses the internet, you can get a child protection programme, which my son has opted to have for his children. Naturally, they need parental supervision but I don't see any reason why they should be deprived of using the internet, as it is a learning curve for them, and they use computers quite widely in schools these days. Perhaps it would be a good idea for somebody to write and operate a "Childnet" or perhaps use a different word from child, or that will cause problems with teenagers... perhaps "Youngnet". lol. Then, the normal internet could be unavailable to any children under eighteen years, but I don't know for the life of me how you stop them lying about their age. Brightest Blessings.

as long as they see good things and uses well its okey for them to use the internet or else if they started getting into the wrong part of the thing then its hard to allow them but real hard is to trace what they do what not now a days so better be not discussing such issues..........or else life is cheers

I think it depends on their trust. When my daughter was younger I was always in the room when she was online and then again she had school on line as she was homeschool and too switch from school house cd's from her school as they have Math, English, History,Science and other subjects. She took some online and other times she would chat with her friends.I really trusted my daughter adn I think sometimes parent don't watch what their kids are doing these days and needed to be careful and it's not safe unless they who who it is.

i think that the children should be allowed to use the internet because nowadays it is very important and informative and it is also not a bad thing until you want to make it bad. if you are worried about the children then use any program/ software which can ban the sites which are not good.

I would say monitor them closely until the age of 16, at which age they should know right from wrong. I'm there supervising my child at least 75 percent of the time. For now she only wants to play games and get on webkinz. As she expands I will explain to her what she can and can't do.
