All you can eat buffets.

Can you control yourself when you go to an all you can eat buffet, or do you end up eating too much and feeling sick afterward. I find that I often eat too much when going to buffets and I'm so full that it hurts. I think it can be hard to control yourself when you're allowed to eat as much as you want. I am trying to work on this and not eat too much when I go to these kinds of restaurants. The temptation is really hard to resist though. It's a good thing I don't eat at these places too often or I would probably be extremely overweight.

I don't usually go to these restaurants. I really can't eat too much so they end up making money on people like me. My husband likes them, but they don't often have healthy choices at these restaurants. The foods are often drenched in butter or fried, neither of which is really very good. They are a good value though if you have a big family.

I guess it all depends on where you go. The buffets I've been to always have a lot of healthy choices. They include lots of salad and cooked veggies.

I don't eat at places like that very often; even though I like to because then I can pick out all my favorite things and get full on them. I do go back for secons usually but my first plate isn't loaded full so I think it is okay. Maybe I justify that to my self because I actually do feel full on my first plate but I just want to have that little bit more of something! I do know what you mean thought about eatting as much as you want. The first couple of times I went to a place like that I got so full I did feel kind of sick. I thought to myself; just because I am allowed to eat this much food should I? Should anybody? So from then I purpose started just taking little amounts of the foods I like so that I can go back for seconds if I want to. My seconds usually consist of small piece of something not another plate of food. So now I don't mind going to places like that because I feel in control of it! I actually like the challenge of it! I win, I didn't over eat! LOL

That is kind of what I do. I might get 7 or 8 plates of food, but I don't fill them up all the way. I get little bit of everything that I want. Even doing that I still eat too much at times though.

I am much better at controlling myself now than I used to be. when I was younger and money was tight, I was of the mindset that I had to eat as much as I could in order to "get my money's worth." Now, I have finally realized that leaving a restaurant feeling bloated and unable to move is, in fact, not getting a good value for anyone. I now pace my self and stop when I am comfortably full, rather than stuffed.

Yes I think that is one of the things that can make it hard to control yourself. I do want to get the most out of my money. I have started to try to pace myself.

Hi Kythe42, this is question just for me as i love to go and dine whole heartedly at the buffets. but the taste should match mine only then i enjoy. i love that system a lot, as while eating and taking again and again gives me an impression as if i am eating all this free. and while i am eating i love to be under this impression. i eat a lot but a lot also to a limit which i know will not cause harm to me or my stomach or my health in any way. i am a vegetarian and i love to take all sort of varities and salads, yogurt, curd based items. i love that a lot. i dont go on for too much of fried stuff as i cant take too much of fried. i feel like vomiting. so i stick to normal items but i eat a lot.

Your suppose to eat until you extremely full and thats why most people don't go that often... the whole point of a buffet is to eat as much as possible

Well I guess that is the point of a buffet, but it certainly isn't healthy to eat like that even if you don't go that often.

I tend to avoid Buffets, whether they are all you can eat or otherwise. I do this because I have seen people use their fingers when they are pciking food up. I have seen people take a bit of something and then not like it and throw the rest back into the buffet table. I have seen peolpe stand over the buffet table and cough without putting their hand over their mouth or sneeze RIGHT on the food on the table.... It's all just too horrible and not appetizing to make a buffet sound yummy.

Wow, sorry you had that experience. I've been to buffets many times and have never seen anyone act like that with the food. Maybe it all just depends where you come from that determines how people act. I'll probably keep going to buffets but if I ever actually see something like that happening, then I might stop going.

I start with a cup of soup. Then have my protein and vegetables. Then a salad. I often skip dessert or have fruit instead.

I get stuck whenever we go out to those type of places. I want to eat only enough to have enough food, but at the same time there's always this feeling of needing to make sure you get your moneys worth when you area eating food. Then, it always works out that there is something there that hits the spot perfectly when it comes to your tastes at the time. It works out to me either eating too much or not feeling like I ate enough. So, I finally decided that we shouldn't go to places like that too often anymore.

I don't go to those places that often any more either. When I do go I try to make more of an effort to not overeat though.

These buffets are great. I sure do eat too much. It is delicious and gives me somewhat the impression that it is free. So I eat a lot and somewhere there is a limit. I never get sick from it, I know when to stop. But I eat a lot more than usual. I do not see this as a problem as I do not dine this way often and I always cut down on calories the next couple of days. So I am not worried at all, I just enjoy.

It does give one a somewhat sense of pleasure to know that the amount of food they are eating would cause way more if they were to order all of that in a regular restaurant.

The first few times we ever went to buffets we overdid it, but after practicing, we are now at the point where it is under control. I try to think of the food pyramid and eat accordingly, avoiding the starchy foods like bread and potatoes. My weakness, though, is the macaroni and cheese. I always taste a little of that even if it isn't on my "safe list."

I can still remember the very first buffet I attended. The food was Great and there was so much of it. I ate like a pig and my stomach didn't let me forget for 2 days. Ever since then I've been careful and taken small portions. I still eat a lot, but I stop before I turn into an animal.

No that I live in the South we have lots & lots of buffets. I can usually control myself but definetly do feel a little uncomfortable sometimes. Usually I get so stuffed I can't even eat dessert on top of it. Funny thing is I can't control myself at Mexican food restaurants I eat so much chips & salsa I'm almost stuffed before my entree comes:)

I don't go to eat buffets any more. I think it's not healthy. As you force yourself eat a lot in a time and after that you will feel so bad. It's not a good diet. I prefer to go to the restaurants to have a normal meal. Although it's fantastic to try various foods in a buffet. But I don't want to be sick after it:)

It really depends on what the buffet is. If the buffet has some of my favorite foods, I've been known to overindulge a little. But I do try to restrain myself.
