NBA Draft

WIth the NBA Draft all wrapped up I began to wonder how next season will shape up. Obviously Portland is going to be a force to be reckoned with even inthe tough western conference. They have revamped there entire team adding 3 first round picks in addition to their own (Greg Oden), two second rounders, and adding Channing Frye while ridding themselves of the contract of potential problem child Zach Randolph. The Seattle Supersonics added two top 5 picks in Kevin Durant and Jeff Green yet they lost Ray Allen and still have to comes to terms on a contract with unrestricted free agent Rashard Lewis. Speaking of Ray Allen, the Boston Celtics acquired him in a trade involving the 5th overall pick and Delonte West. Adding Ray Allen gives the Celtics a legitimate 2nd scorer as well as a way to take pressure off Paul Pierce and 3rd year forward Al Jefferson. Many analysts have gone on record saying that the trade will only be beneficial for 2 or 3 years until Pierce and Allen become "old" by NBA standards. I disagree. I believe that Boston is now an instant contender in the East. THis will, in my opinion at least, make Boston a popular destination for free agents and will allow Danny Ainge to more easily build a perennial contender with less money. Just last week Kevin Garnett expressed his displeasure with Boston and refused a trade there. If Boston had been the runner up in the nba finals this year I am willing to bet he would have jumped at the chance to put them over the top and be "the guy" that brough another banner back to Boston.
