Working after hitting the lottery?

If you would win the jackpot, would you continue to work or would you retire? I would definetely retire and enjoy the rest of my life with my husband and help out my favorite charities like the ASPCA and the WWF. A couple that won the jackpot wants to continue working, even though they won enough to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. What would you do? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11669215/

Wow, wow, wow! How lucky? And, exciting!!! :D I think that I would also keep working, but definitely not as much. It would also have to be a job that I enjoyed. Otherwise, it would just not be that fun! I could still spend quality, relaxing time...but, then also still have a life that I worked on!! :)

What trade have you wanted to learn Rip?

I think working because one enjoys it, surely makes sense, but I wouldn't keep a job that makes me unhappy, because there is no need for it. Maybe going back to college and finally learning the trade I always wanted would be something I would consider :)

I'm a stay at home mom so I couldn't quit my job no matter how much money I had, a nanny and a house keeper would be nice though just so I could have more fun time with the kids and not have to worry about a babysitter if I did happen to want to do something without them...like go to the bathroom. If I worked outside the home though I probably would quit my job unless it was something very fulfilling and flexible. I think that if I won a big lottery the only outside work I would do would be a job that actually MEANT something and one that I could do when I pleased. I have a big heart and have always wanted to be "of service" to anyone who might need me. Then if money really wasn't an issue for me anymore, I would use my paycheck from that job to help struggling families. My s/o has always said that if got rich all of a sudden he would keep working at his job just long enough for them to make him mad so that he could tell them all off and quit in a big scene.

"My s/o has always said that if got rich all of a sudden he would keep working at his job just long enough for them to make him mad so that he could tell them all off and quit in a big scene." That's something that has crossed my mind lol. Even though I enjoy my work, my coworkers tend to get on my nerves and the look on their faces would be priceless ;)

Well, if I am working doing something I love, which I plan on doing in covering sports, then I would continue to work, knowing that I don't need to kill myself working so hard and still get the enjoyment of what I am doing and keeping busy. I would definitely use the money to build my family's resources and make life much easier, but I don't think I would give up working all together.

That is exactly what I was thinking. If it was something that I enjoyed doing, why quit doing it? You probably have spent your life trying to get there, and quiting it would just be a waste kind of!! :D But, it would make life easier!

As I am already retired working would not be a question for me but I would certainly enjoy a lot more expensive pleasures, pay off my mortgage and as I already give to my favorite animal welfare charity I would add a lot more money too it.

I may not continue working the current job, but I'd work so I'd have something to do, even if it was something rather simple, enough to get me out of the house a few hours a week. I mean, I really wouldn't need the money, but it's always nice to have something coming in so I could put it aside just in case something happened, because anything can happen at any time. I don't think I could stand not doing anything at all, even if I had all the money I ever wanted. I'd have to do something to occupy my time.

I would do something that I enjoy doing, even volunteer work or something, so not to get bored. After I come back from my really long cruise of course :)

I'd probably continue working if I won. I'd go stir crazy if I didn't. I'd work because I worry about money too. I'd still worry even if I won the lottery.

I am aware that I am 6 months late in responding to this, but I am going to do it anyway. Considering I am still young, no matter how much I won in the lottery I would still continue to work. I am not the type to stay at home 24/7 (trust me, after 2 years of staying home I am going nuts already), so I would more than likely go back to work, or if I was working when I won it I wouldn't quit my job. I need a way of "getting away" and work has always been my way of doing that.

I would do a combination of the two. My passion is art and photography. I would love to work by traveling throughout the world taking pictures and having them published. Not only would I be working, but I would also be enjoying the world that the passions of my life. :)

If I truly enjoyed my job then I would consider staying. But I think what I would do is take some of the lottery money and open an antique shop or do something I really enjoyed. I can't see myself just sitting at home all day because I had all that money in the bank. Of course I would travel first and see the places I have always dreamed about seeing. Then I would come home and find something to keep myself busy.

I think they're in shock, and have nothing better to say. They're out of their minds to continue working. With 33 mil, I would find better things to do than to go into work everyday.

I would still work only it would be strictly volunteer work. I would got to places like Africa and Mexico and buy presents and food to personally hand out especially to the children. That would be retirement for me.

Well if I won enough to stop working then that would suit me just fine. I would buy a new house and foster handicapped children. I would have to do a bit of traveling too...hehe Hawaii sounds good...

I would definitely retire, I'm the few people in the world who'd be totally content without having to work!

There was a show about this on E! True Hollywood Story. The show was about Winning the Lottery Curse. Some people make bad decisions when money are involved. Really terrible decisions were made by these people. Most ended up BROKE! After seeing this,I'd work! Probably after the initial delivery of the check HIDE.

Retire and spend time with my family. I think the charities you mentioned are great too. I love animals.

I would keep working. I like having the benefits like insurance and 401K. It is extra money coming in I could put towards retirement as well. I would not want to get bored being at home either. While that is a nice thought, it would get old fairly fast. I do plan on freelance writing more in my spare time, but I do like having a day job as crazy as that sounds.

It would depend f the amount of money. If I won mre then 2 millions, then I would retire. I want to start a family and I would be great to stay at home with my kids. My house would always be clean, I will have time to d some computer art, etc. It will be great :)

I think they can work if they want to; but they should quit their jobs so someone else can have them that needs them. If working is what you love to do become your own boss and do other types of work for charities or start a business and hire people to work for you! You don't have to quite working per say but it really makes me mad when people don't leave there regular jobs so others who need it can have it! I would love to strike it rich so I would not have to work my regular job! It would trill me that someone else on the unemployment line could have it! Depending on my position someone could have that promotion they wanted. I then would work for charities or possibly start a business of my own and be the best boss I could be! I wish I could have that opportunity. I can't imagine winning the lottery though!

If I won the lottery, the closest I would get to working would be to volunteer occaisionally. I would retire, help my kids and enjoy life. I enjoy road trips (especially the ones that don't require a U-Haul full of our stuff) so maybe we would just travel. I also have charities to help, but the kids come first. Since we have worked for so many years and have nothing to show for it, I guess a house would probably be a good thing too...LOL

Oh I would definatly still hold a job. Although it is doubtful I would keep a job that I was unhappy at - where as I would keep it now to make the bills. I would put money in something that would obviously grow interest and volunteer/work at places that fueled my interests. The freedom gained by not HAVING to work would be wonderful.
