Hopefully this will get my PC moving a little bit faster. As some of you know I have the slowest PC in the world. Now I need help about something else. When I turn on my PC I get a message that says: (Kodak Software Updater .exe) lacks a '-' ( the app id separator) Now does anyone have a clue as to what that means and what I need to do to fix it?

I am not sure what that means. However, I have been in the same situation of having my computer really slow down on me. What I ended up doing was putting system restore in and going back to factory settings. It cleans everything up and your computer will be great again. The only problem is you will lose verything that has been put on since you bought the computer. It was worth it for me. cheers,

My grandma just bought a Kodak EasyShare camera and installed the software on her computer. I soon turned off the autostart (start with Windows) feature, as I found the software hogs something like 60 MB of memory!!! If you have your Kodak software starting up with Windows, that could have something to do with your computer's sluggishness (aside from the fact that you have dial-up). Unless your Kodak software seems to have problems on your machine (other than the updater error message), I don't think you really need the updates. I doubt the use of Kodak software will ever be widespread enough to attract the attention of hackers, so I doubt they'll be looking for attack vectors anytime soon. It's up to you, but I'd turn the updater off myself.

You're welcome. I'm glad it helped. If removing the software makes you no longer able to connect with your digital camera, there are still cheap drives that can read the memory card, which is really all you need. For anywhere from ten to thirty bucks, there are multi-card readers, even the cheapest of which could probably read it. I don't know what kind of card your camera uses, but my grandma's Kodak uses SanDisk, I believe. These memory readers plug right into any available USB port. Assuming you have Windows 2000, Millennium, or later, that's all you have to do. No opening up the computer to install an internal device, no software drivers to install, nada. Plugging your memory card into a multi-reader, it becomes another drive, just like when you use a flashdrive or anything else. From there, you can open up the folder, and copy the pictures to anywhere you want. You can e-mail them to your loved ones, upload them to the web, whatever. And finally, if you ever seriously get into editing your pictures, the open source GIMP software is available for free. There's even a portable version at portableapps.com, so you don't actually have to "install" it. I use GIMP Portable from my flashdrive, along with some 70 other portable programs. :P Lots of luvs!

By the way, I noticed you mentioned that you have a Dell running Windows XP. You say it helped to remove the Kodak software, but if you feel your machine is still not up to snuff, you might want to check for spyware. These days, the Internet is infested and absolutely rampant with keyloggers, Trojan horses, and adware, ready to install themselves on your machine unbeknownst to you as soon as you visit an infected site (even a legitimate site that's infected). If this friend of yours is at least partially responsible for software decision making on your machine, you might want to check with them before making changes. I can make recommendations if you want my help. But in the meantime, here are some online scanners you could use anytime you want to scan for and clean existing infections: http://test.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/free_security_tools/housecall_free_scan.php http://www.ewido.net/en/ http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml Lots of luvs!

It does not matter how many times I do a disk clean-up, my computer will never work right. I have a Dell with Windows Vista and it never works right.

I think there is some problem with the Kodak software you had installed once. Either it was not properly removed or some of its files have been damaged by a malfunctioning disk drive. In either case, try reinstalling it and if you do not intend to use it, uninanstall it using the control panel. I hopr that fixes your problem.

Hello, I am not an expert but I can try and point you in the right direction...lol.. The page that pops up says (Kodak Software Updater.exe), you say. Well if that is correct then I am guessing that you have previously downloaded a Kodak application. It would be wise if you remove the application from your computer, if you have the Software then you can reinstall it again. I believe that there is an error with the software that requires you to repair it, but it is better to just uninstall it. There is a free registry cleaner called CClean that you can download, to fix hidden errors in your PC and have it running a bit faster. I hope this little tid bit of info helps:)

I use CCleaner myself, but I'd never trust a multi-purpose product to clean the system registry. Most such products will cripple something if you ever uninstall them, or worse. And even amongst the dedicated registry cleaners, I've seen almost all of them cause a bluescreen at least once. The only ones that haven't are ToniArts EasyCleaner, and Norton WinDoctor, which is a full diagnostics tool. EasyCleaner is free. :)
