oh i see... I just came back from Hong Kong and the traffic light pedestrian sound is kinda loud and at time rather irritating. They do have a similar sound on the escalators at the MTR also, only softer. I had a good n fun trip there.

This function is for those disabled who cannot see stuff.They can rely on hearing the sound to find out weather it is red or green.So this gadget get keep them away from danger.This function is a very old design and works fine.

Here in the Philippines there is no such thing as sounding traffic light. Glad to here that there is such a thing in Hong Kong to help those disabled who cannot see. Your traffic light is very effective and helpful to them.

It's to help blind or shortsighted people know the status of the pedestrian signals. Slow tick means that there is a red man. Fast tick means that there is a green man. Starting an stopping fast tick means that the green man is flashing and that time is running out.
