I don't get men!!

I have been in love with the same man for the past almost 8 yrs. Only he has no idea. He seems to be deathly afraid of commitment, and i am afraid that if I tell him, he will fall off the face of the earth for good. Anytime we talk, we seem to go out for a couple of weeks, but the second things sem to be getting even close to serious, HE DISAPPEARS. Then he'll pop up again out of nowhere. Any ideas how I can tell him, w/o scaring him, and w/o making him disappear? I just need to get it off my chest after so long! Please help! Thanks
