Hello my friends, I got up this morning and turned on my computor and started checking my emails and I was shocked by what I was reading. this is an email that I got today and I just dont understand how some people can live with thereself and send this kind of stuff to people. It is a new scam and yes the first thing I did was to call the town cop where I live at to take a look at it just to make sure. I hope that people who scam others rot in H*ll.
This is how the email was sent to me,
This is the only way I could contact you for now,I want you to be very
careful about this and keep this secret with you for now. You have no
need of knowing who I am or where I am from.I know this may sound very
surprising to you but it's the situation.I have been paid some ransom in
advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my
employer. It's someone I beleive you call a friend,
I have followed you closely for a while now and have seen that you are
innocent of the accusations he levelled against you.Do not contact the
police or try to send a copy of this to them, because if you do, I will
know, and I might be pushed to do what I have been paid to
do.Besides,this is
the ist time I turn out to be a betrayer in my job.I took pity on
you, that is why I have made up my mind to help you if you are ready to
co-operate.
Now listen,I will post to you the tape of our conversation and his
pics, but before that, I need $8000.I repeat,do not arrange for the cops and
if you play hard to
get, it will be extended to your family.my employer is in my control
now. Payment details will be provided for you to make a part payment of
$4000 first, which will serve as gurantee that you are ready to
co-orperate,I will post a copy of the tape and his pics to you(I tape recorded
our
conversation),which will be enough evidence for you to take any legal
action against him before he employs another person for the job. You
will pay the balance of $4000 once you receive the tape.
Warning; do not contact the police, make sure you stay indoors once it
is 7.30pm until this whole thing is sorted out,if you neglect any of
these warnimgs, you will have yourself to blame. You do not have much
time,so get back to me immediately

I just talked to the town cop about it and he said that he has gotten two other calls about this one and he told me not to delete it that way just in case if I get another one they are going to try and track down where it came from because it just might be someone with in your area and they want to try and stop this kind because it is a threat on someones life, that is how they are looking at it. and that is a bigger crime then just spamming someone with a scam. thanks

Yes...this is a scam. I read about it on CNN just today. It is widely reported and growing. There are things you can do but it may not do any good.
First report it to your internet provider. Then if possible report it to the provider it was sent from. People like this cover there track pretty well so not sure if you can but at least try.
It takes a pretty sick mind to do this. And because of the security issues of today it will only be a matter of time before they are caught.
I am glad to see you did check it out and did not let it scare you.
There is no doubt there are some people who follow those directions and remain petrified.
There is no just punishment for this. I would consider it right up there with rape and homicide but I am afraid the law isn't so punishing.
Do not fear this. Check the CNN web site now and then to see what comes of this.

I agree with you that is a terrible thing for someone to do.
What did the police say? Will they try to find this idiot who posted the email? I am glad that you posted it on mylot, let everyone know that this is a scam.
Never mind that the scammer should rot in H*ll, I they he should be arrested! It annoys me that people abuse the internet.
I am glad that you had the good sense to call the police.
I would ask the police if you can respond and agree to give them the $4000.00 and then have him or her arrested.
There are alot of sick people in this world.

OMG!!! Of all the various types of conversations that I have come across on Mylot, this surely takes the cake. Just reading the mail gave me a sort of creepy feeling only watching a horror movie can give. Aren’t you scared a bit??? C’mon be frank with us. What are your friends & family saying? I just cant believe that you are not perturbed a bit!! That certainly calls for guts.

WOW! believe me when i say that of all the peptalk that we hear everyday, your attitude has done more to reconfirm my belief in myself...not to cave in to pressure, face the unknown with a clear brain and intrepid mind. I wish you all the best in life!

I actually got the chills when I read this. To think that someone would stoop so low to scam people out of money is frightening. The internet is such a scary place these days because it gives ruthless people access to innocent people like yourself.
Whoever did such a horrible thing, hopefully, will be caught. Thankfully, the police and authorities have such advanced technology that they will eventually trace these e-mails to someone or a group of people who are doing this.
I have received many e-mail scams over the years, promising me that I can make millions of dollars if I give someone some money to access a bank account, but this truly takes the cake.

I've heard of this scam and I agree with you, they need to burn. There's a few passing around. I love the one where I appreciate your help with something from 6 months ago and since you were such a help please contact my secretary so we can pay you X amount of money. Gee, but I don't remember doing anything 6 months ago that would have gotten it for me? There are also several job offer scams passing around too. There's just a whole lot of junk to sort through and delete.

Wow, I have seen scams before but not like this. This is really playing with peoples fears and is close to a threat. I am glad that u turned it in to the police .- i really hope that someone will pay for it, but they are hard to track down, they usually use really secure systems for their scams.

I can't believe the lengths some b*astards go to con and scam and scare the hell out of people. So glad that you didn't fall for the scam and that you reported it straight away. Personally I delete emails like this but I've never actually received one of this particular kind. It's about the worst you can get because it's threatening your life and I hope by you posting this discussion many others will read it and warn others about this sort of thing. The only way we can beat scam artists like this is by telling everyone on our email lists about these kind of scams, now I can imagine this one will be spreading like wildfire very shortly if it hasn't already and some innocent email users who are not very savvy in the way of scam emails might actually fall for this and really be scared to leave their home and believe that this person is going to hurt them! For the instigators of these type of emails, I hope their private bits all fall off and they get payback for this new kind of evil they are spreading! x

Lord help! how crazy are people going to get? i think if you know someone really smart with computers just try to find the IP address of the computer from where this mail was sent and then report it to the cops atleast other epople will be spared this stupidity. How very creative to come up with such a stroy only if they used it in a constructive way :) instead wasting time thinking of just dumb schemes anyway i hope you have not fallen for the story though it sounds pretty convincing...

what a situation! good for you that you took action rather than sitting around waiting for the pranker to send you a line of emails.
even i dont understand why cant people mind their own business, they have so much of ample time to bother others.
