When I told my kids school teacher that I read to them every night she asked If I could have a word with the other parents. Is it really that unusually for a father to read to his kids? Our two youngest are eight and nine(nearly ten)years old and I have read to them everynight since they were babies because my mom and sometimes my dad read to me. I liked it so I thought they would too. Now I can't go a night without reading them a story. Even when we go camping I have to take a book to read!
They are no more educationaly advanced than the other pupils at their school, just average which is fine by me as I am not a pushy parent, just a proud one. So the question is do any other dads read to their kids and do you think it helps?

my sons and I used to read together every night before they went to sleep that way they could learn some of the words as they went along.

My children are now grown,we had three boys, and I read to them every night that I was home. When I finally gave it up, I suppose my youngest was about ten, there was a real vacuum in my life. They were all reading for themselves then, and I,m happy to say that they read to their kids now. I think it helped my kids, and looking back, I know it was one of the highlights of my life. Yes , Dads should read to their children,- it helps a lot.

i'm not a dad, i'm a mom with a 26 year old son, but what you're doing is WONDERFUL! you're not only spending excellent time with them, you're opening up a whole new world of reading to them!
