One thing that I have always really liked about Smallville is the rich, vibrant colors on the show. The sets, such as the Talon have such great bright colors. Even the clothes have very rich colors most of the time; Clark's reds and blues which are, of course, colors associated with Superman, are bright and richly dark reds and blues. The colors just jump out at you.

It is possible that the different shades of red and blue and yellow are made to stand out slightly to your eyes but without you actually noticing it activly while you are watching the show and of course the signifcane being they are supermans colours.
I must admit i have always loved the settings they use for smallville because the country side is so beautiful and smallville itself is a beautiful place i would love to live in a place like that and that looked as beautiful as that, it wouldn't be the same were it set somewhere else i don't think.

All the colors jump more than on just about any other show, I was just mentioning the Superman colors as an example. It is one of if not the most richly filmed shows on the air. The choice and contrast in colors must be well planned to give that rich look. It really adds to the freshness and pop of the show.
