chicken or rat

Friends told me that rat meat taste like chicken, and that is why in many parts of third world countries, they use rat meat to con customers as chicken meat. I remember vaguely seeing a picture about this in China, and read news about this in India, and even London as my dad told me that in the 50s and 60s, some restaurants used rat meat as chicken meat, and cat meat as chicken meat (as there were a lot of missing cats). I am beginning to get paranoia about this as in some very cheap butchers and cheap cheap supermarkets, chicken meat taste awful. So is it me or there is some truth in it?
