Do you miss your job when you can't work?

I've been off work for a couple of weeks now because of illness, and it might be a while before I get to go back. I've had a lot of people telling me it must be nice to have a break, and it seems like every day I hear many people complaining about their jobs. However, I've found that when I can't go to work, I miss my job! I miss my coworkers, my customers, the problems I get to solve, the things I learn everyday! I've been keeping in touch with my supervisor not only because I am supposed to but also because it helps me feel like I'm still involved, and as soon as I'm feeling well enough I plan to stop by work just to say hello to everyone.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Do you miss your job when you can't work? If so, what are the parts about it you miss?

You are most welcome...if it turns out that you cant work outside the home would your health be in such a state that you couldnt work from home either? I have to tell you I LOVED owning my own at home biz....Would that be a possiblity?

Thanks so much for sharing with me, Ravenladyj! I've seen you talk about your history before, and having known other dancers I've heard the same things from many of them! =)
I'm glad to hear that you love being a SAHM! Right now I'm so focused on how much we need me working that I haven't even really considered that option, but if my health doesn't allow me to work outside anymore... then I guess I'll have to accept the sitaution and learn from it like anything else. =)

Yes, often times I do! I have been out of work for a while myself, due to my son and his disability. What I once saw as irritating is what I now miss….lol…
I was working as an aide in Special Education I had my own student for three years. I remember getting frustrated when he doesn’t want to work, rather sit there and talk to me the whole time. Or when I give an assignment and he submits a coloring page with the words best teacher on it. I would always get frustrated with him because my boss assumes that I am not doing my job!
But now that I am no longer there, I miss it! I miss the rebellion that he shows and the smile I get from him every time I catch him doing something wrong….lol..
I miss it so much and I wish I could go back although I know that I wouldn’t have the same student. I just want to be able to teach again!
Right now I have to be home for my son, because we are still in the process of getting him the help that he needs. I have received my AA in Related Services (Special Education Certification) and I am going to school online at this time, I hope to get my degree in Juvenile Criminal Justice and continue on as a Special Education Teacher someday

Oh, that does sound like a really intersting job to have! I can understand the frustration, but it does sound like you really cared for your student as well! Thanks so much for sharing with me!
I think it's great that you have a plan to continue your education that way! I've been trying to come up with ways to get back in school myself (to study banking) but between my health and my son I've been side-tracked quite a bit.

i don't really miss my job whenever i'm on medical leave. i feel guilty though haha. if i'm on annual leave then it's ok, i just couldn't and wouldn't be bothered with work! however i do try to ensure that i've completed all my tasks before i go on leave. unless it's due to illness, which is unavoidable. hope you get well soon and get plenty of rest! don't miss work too much! ;)

i miss my responsibilities if i cant respond to it. it usually happens at times when im stressed out and pressured this week and got sick during weekends. my body looks for it. and sometimes feel uncomfortable especially when you have work undone. its like you want to get up and finish it right away.

I quit my job of several years in 2002. I dont' miss it. I do miss the patients and some of the people I worked with but I don't miss the day to day grind. I was helping my husband with his business until my Mom had heart surgery. That was a little more stimulating.

Yes I did. I held a job since I was 16 years old until I was 26 when I had my first child. At that point hubby and me decided I would stay home. It took me 2 years to get a grip on not working outside the house. I miss the interaction with strangers, the gratitude of a pay check and that independence I once felt. Now I am use to it, being it's 10 years later. But sometimes I still wish I had that at times.

Yes, and I work at home. Even though I don't always make money, I miss what I am doing. I am my own boss and make all the decisions. I don't have any co-workers. So, when I can't be working on what I want to work on, I miss it somewhat. But it is not quite the same things as working in the outside world. If it makes you feel better interacting with your work even though you are not there, that is good. If you feel happier doing that, by all means continue to do it.

First of all I wish that could you get well soon. We have different views about our work, you missed your work but it's the other way around for me. I always looking forward of having a vacation or rest from my work. All the legal holidays are very well marked and awaited in my calendar. This is where I could be free from any trouble and problems that could arise from my work (which usually occur particularly in my department). So I really treasure every rest day that comes on my work.

I tried it, I didn't exactly miss my job but I miss doing something worth my time. Well there comes a point where you won't like your job but when your time is idle you wish you just had something to do. Well I guess that's life, we never get to be contented especially if what we are doing is on routine. You just have to do something different everyday that will spice up your life.

Well,
I quit medicine 8 months ago today and I have been working my own home based business. I do not miss medicine and I am happy to have made that decision. I was miserable as a doctor and it took me 14 long years to realize it.
I hate the shift work, the abuse, the endless working hours, the feeling of having no control over my time, the guilt of misdiagnosing a patient, the hypocricy of residency training, the old boys club, the racial discrimination, the malnourishment, the lack of sleep, the constant feeling of being behind on my reading, the backstabs, the lack of appreciation...etc.
Now I am my own boss and I own my time.

When I was happy in my job I missed it. As my disability progressed and my supervisor became challenging (that's a mild way of describing her) and she began to make it uncomfortable for my co-workers to be friendly with me, I couldn't wait to get away. I do understand what you are saying.
I have not been on MyLot for awhile and am so sorry to hear that you have been ill. I am going to message you with my email addy. Please respond. ~donna

I can honestly say I have never missed work when away - I'm not a lazy person and am in fact a very hard worker but man if I didn't have to work I wouldn't - would much rather be playing or working on a new project of my own writing or crafting, even gardening - all much more enjoyable than work.

I morned when I had to stop working and went on permintant disablility. I really loved working. I worked until I could not work any longer.
Yes I miss working, I miss all my coworkers, my friends and the work its self. I would go back if I felt well enough. You are not wrong to miss work. Do not listen to all those people who say "It must be nice not to work" They are not ill and that is different.
When I was off for an illness before when you just start feeling better and you can do all the projects you want to do then its time to go back to work.
You go ahead and miss work and your friends, customers and I hope that helps you get better sooner.

Yes I do. I went on leave for about 2 days and I was just so bored that I got up early on my second day of leave and went back to the office.
I think it's hard for people like me who's just so used to working to go on leave or take a vacation...
I just don't miss my job or my co workers. It's the feeling of actually achieving something for the day that I miss.

We love vacations right? It gives us really happiness once we got vacations from our work. Of course you'll think of the things you're gonna do without having to think of the work loads, reports, etc etc.. meaning, no pressure at all. YOu can rest, you can watch movies, you can hang-out with friends.. But, if my vacation is too long, say, months.. of course im gonna miss my work so much..
