Re-using carrier bags

When you go shopping do you re-use your carrier bags? Recently this was fairly big news in the UK with companies like Sainsbury's releasing limited edition designer bags that could be re-used. We have a stock of sturdy re-usable bags bought from various shops that we always try to take with us in the car when we go to the supermarkets. We do forget more often than I'd like and end up with more rubbish thin plastic bags that are virtually no use after carrying the shopping from the car. Some stores in the UK offer recycling facilities in their shops for carriers maybe you make use of one of these to get rid of those unwanted carriers?

I usually re use my shopping bags as you never know when you might need one to hold something in e.g. safely bringing a gift to someone etc.

I never throw away carrier bags, I tend to mostly use them in dustbins in most of the rooms in my home including the bathroom. In the office I make sure everyone puts their carrier bags in one place and regularly I take them to local charity shops for them to use when customers buy things, the staff are always very grateful. I do tend to always have a handful in the car so when I stop to buy something I have a carrier bag or three to hand. I tend to keep re-using them till they tear :)

that's a really good idea. still, hopefully more and more charity shop customers won't need them, getting into the habit of using their own bag.

It is a good ideas to recycle the carrier or bags. So the companies have not to rush to produce more and more until they become too much. People may think they are cheap and the throw away.

I usually use bags that can be recycled easily.. this helps me from eploiting the nature..I do re-use carrie bags which are given in some departmental stores.. It is better to use the bags that can be re-cycled (or) paper bags rather than re-use bags and plastic bags..

I do reuse my shopping bags. Ours are a little thicker than the ones you talk about so we can use them in the small garbage cans in the home says on garbage bags some. We also have the reusable shopping bags available to us worth 99 cents to retail to us the consumer i have a couple of those someday i plan on buying more and using them for my groceries as it saves on garbage alot.

We buy the bags here. They do not cost alot but after carrying the groceries home I use them as garbage bags. That works just fine =)

any carrier bags I do end up with are used for picking up dog poop or for lining bins. I keep a canvas bag in my handbag so I can avoid using a plastic bag. normally only the big shop ends up with me having carriers, as my canvas isn't big enough for all of it, but I got a really nice free jute bag recently which is ideal for the heavier bits and peices.

I hate those thin plastic bags that we get from the store. I usually will throw them in a drawer and use them to throw the bathroom garbage. When possible I will ask for paper bags. We don't have many stores that offer that option, but I would much rather get paper bags. I do use the paper bags to put my paper garbage in and then once a week we burn our paper garbage. I don't own one of those cloth bags used for shopping.
