Was the persecution of Christ used as a cop-out in the Holocaust?

I'm going to try to keep this discussion as neutral as possible as I know this topic is quite a sensitive one, not only for Jewish people, but for all people.
I remember reading that anti-semitism stemmed from the persecution of Jesus; people resented the Jewish people for persecuting Christ, basically.
But my question to you is, how far do you agree that Hitler used this as a cop-out for his treatment of Jews in the Holocaust?
In my opinion it was a cop-out. It was a way for an evil man to justify his hatred for another race. Religion could not have possibly been the basis for his actions.
But that's only my opinion. What do you all think?

Actually it is a cop-out used by many anti-semetic groups.
This was illustrated in a satire format in the movie PCU, with the Fraternity of Balls and Shaft, as "Who murdered Jesus" was one of the password challenges.
See, if you get down to it, everyone involved, other than the Romans, were pretty much all Jews. Jesus was born a Jew. The Apostles were Jews as well. So, it makes sense that the Pharisees and the Saducees, and the crowd the wanted Barrabas were also Jewish.

Precisely. No supremacy group could ever use Jesus Christ as an excuse in killing any race, especially where Jews are concerned, as Jesus was one himself. It's actually quite insulting that they'd ever expect anyone to believe that's why they did it. The human race is daft, but not that daft.

it does not matter, the fact is that religion was the problem in that case.

There's no argument here, insofar as this sentence can be called an argument. You've not explained anything. Do elaborate.

Exactly, it wasn't about Jesus at all. Like I said before, how could people expect us to believe that it was. Greed and power, indeed, but also envy. It's so easy to look on races and see their tenacity, dilligence and drive, and despise them for their success. Hitler saw how well the Jewish population was doing compared with the Aryans, and he didn't like it. yet he would've been the first to complain if they were all unemployed and claiming Germany's benefits. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't!
