..... I just want to be comfortable and know where the next dollar is coming from. When my husband first got sick.We had to leave behind most of our furniture. That was in early 2002.It has been five years and I still have not been able to buy stuff. We have moved fourteen times including then.I have most of my stuff in boxes still. My landlady is getting upset with me because Iam not completly unpacked yet.My daughter's friend's can't understand why we can't have company.I can't invite people over.My adult son is renting the basement and his new friend came over and they came upstairs and she saw all our boxes and said you moved in two months ago, right? The ice cream truck come's and all the other kids can buy,not my daugher thou.People from our old neighborhood are always bringing over food.If someone does stop by I can't offer them something to drink. If we need something simple from the store,I can't just run over and buy it.We could not go to church yesterday or several other times because we did not have money for gas.I want to own my own home,so I don't have to be jumping thru hoops for a landlord and moving everytime our lease is up.Have something to put into a will to leave my daughter. When we get to church we don't have offering because we just put a few dollars in the tank, now we are broke again.I want to be able to live normally.I still have not finished paying for my husband's grave site.It is a double site. So,when I die my kids will be doing the same thing I did when my husband died, trying to find a grave. How can I do this?

Thank you for your condolences.I know there is no shame in getting from the government. But,according to the figures that the goverment has.It doesn't matter how much your rent is.According to them I make too much money. When we lived in the other county,my daughter got medical assistance, but this county I called and they never sent me the forms.

The only assistance we qualify for is WIC (for my baby) and Medical Assitance for my 2 kids that are from a previous. We lost the baby's medical assistance after she turned a year. Thankfully we go to a clinic that has a sliding scale and we only pay 20% of even the co-pay or what they leave for us to pay and since we have reached the max deductable this year, the insurance has been paying all but $8 so that is a real blessing.
I love how they say we make too much money--yeah right. Then why are we so broke if we make so much? After taxes and insurance, there isn't much left to pay bills with. I think they need to revamp DSS.

Like I said,I have asked and according to the standards of the government I make too much money. When I lived in the other county then the are institution's there that will help people with some food. But there are none of them in this county..I didn't want to move here, but I was in a position where I had to move and the only place I could find to move to that was cheaper was in this county and it is still not cheap enough thou.

Oh you poor thing.I know how that is writting a check and hoping it doesn't get to the bank before the pay does.Around here you cannot write checks for gas. It's rough.Like I said you have to be rich or poor.

The nearest food pantry to me is 40 miles to get to. Most of the time I can't afford gas for my hubby to get to work and we have to write a check and hope that it won't go through til his paycheck hits the bank so we can't get to the pantry. There was one that was 10 miles from us and we would go to it and it was wonderful however they decided that since I lived over the county line that they would not be able to help me anymore. I live at the edge of one county and my physical address is the one county but my phone number is the neighboring county. I am one of those who are stuck in the middle of a line between 2 counties.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know that it must be so hard for you right now to make ends meet. Just like the other people said, do not be ashamed to go to the government for help. I don't know how it all works where you live but here in Indiana, they help out a lot. I actually know someone who gets most of their rent paid by the government (they do have apartments where you can go and live rent free just as long as you do some community service), they get food stamps, and a couple of other things. There's a lot of help for single mothers out there. Just go to the welfare office and ask them for as much information as you can get. Also maybe go to your city hall. I know that there are things that they will pay for if you need it. It's only a one time thing but it will help to save money. Good luck with everything!
