We were in Walmart and my son was 5, somehow we got separated and I panicked..I went to the service desk to report it..They announced over the loud speaker, my sons name and that he was supposed to go back to the childrens section because mommy is waiting for him....Turns out he never left the childrens section...Oh my word..That was so very scary...I did not scold him because it was my fault..I just hugged him so tight....Has this ever happened to you? How did you feel?

No I have not had that scary situatuation in my parenting life. Am very protective of my children-even now at their teenage of 14 and 13, I get interested to know where they are going and when they are expected home. When we travel to shop in the city, they just know Daddy would never tolerate wandering into the crowd so they either stay in the car or move a few steps from it. Of course children are very curious, i still want to agree with you that the scary situation that you witnessed was to a big measure, your fault so be more careful next time.

nope, i am too scared to let small kids run around in a super market, epecialli since nowadays the number of anti-social elements has increased rapidly.

Yup, I know how you felt! Our son was 7 or 8 and we were at the New Eaton Centre in Toronto. It was our first visit, and we weren't used to such elaborate ornamentation. We were standing at the top of an escalator, when we glanced around and our son was gone. The store was crowded, and we were suddenly at a loss for what to do. We looked all around, and then looked down to the floor below, and there was our son waving to us. He had come up the escalator with us, and then turned around and taken the other escalator back down.
We wasted No time going back down to get him, and when we scolded him for getting lost, he said," I knew where I was Mom, you were lost!" What could we say?

Yes my situation was almost identical. I was in Walmart and told my son to stay in this one isle for 5 min and when I got back he was gone. He was older I think 9 and when I told the clerk within minutes there was an announcement (I thiink it was called code yellow) and instantly they were staff everywhere looking for him. I wrote a letter of thanks for finding him so fast and for their unbelievably fast response

Ohh no!! I would have been having a heart attack!! And im soo impreesed i think the word should be../that you didnt punish him..in situations like that..its sad..but we shoul;d have been watching the whole time...This is what happened to me..I was in Walmart in another city bout 30 mins from here..It was Easter and i was buying candy for Skylar when he was 2..earlier we saw a beautful red and sparley ball and wanted it and i said not now.. he cried and cried..and we left to the candy idle.. well i turned to get a bag of candy and turned and he was gone..I looked out theh isle and theer was a man carrying Sky running out theh back door!!!!!!!!!! he was screaming for me.."mommyy mommmyyy mommyyyyy!!!!! I am disabled so i couldnt run as fast at all;i screamed he has my baby help help!!! as he was outside he turned to look to see how far behind i was and there was a black man and mexican..the Mexican angel grabbed him and the other man close lined him punched him and had him oniined ot the pavement with his arms in his head! OMFG! I WAS CRYING SO BAD IN HYSTERICS!!when the police came..asked questions and they left..and to this day i regret with my whole heart idint get theer names..i feel soo sh*tty!! but i thanked themn and hugged them...anywho when thge police looked atthe video tape//that man followed us around teh store within in the same isle..to the corner of another and he saw how much Sky wanted the ball..he used that to get Sky to come to him!! i have never ben so sacredin my life..and he would scream and yell when we would go shopping in stores..didnt matter what ones.,.it hit him just as hard too.I have learned my lesson..and i pray no other child and parent go threw the same..

Having 3 girls yes I have. My oldest one used to get into her own little world and wonder off or she would just start talking to strangers. I ended up getting her a child's harness with a leash on it so we could shop without me losing her. It was the best thing I ever did. My middle daughter was 12 and she wondered off in a Target and by the time I found her she was crying. She learned a big lesson as to why mom says don't wonder off. Haven't lost my little one but then she doesn't leave my side at stores because she might miss out on getting me to buy her something*L*

I have the one son and it upsets me if he is out of my site for more than 2 minutes. I freak! He knows not to go anywhere but sometimes he plays on this and hides amongst the racks and boy does that get me fired up LOL I am very overprotective and I know I do it too often but I am worried that if I turn my back for one second he might be taken. I hear about this happening all the time. I would of been absolutely horrified if that happened to me!!

I can't ever remember a time when I have lost one of the children at the store. I have a rule that all three of my children strictly follow. Unless they are told to they are never allowed to take their hand off of the shopping cart. If I am not using a shopping cart then the children line up by age and walk beside me so that I am able to see them. I worry about the possiblty of losing one of the children in the store so I have always made sure that my children follow these rules.

I felt irresponsible when it happened..We had a stranger danger talk and why it not okay to wander away from mommy...It never happened again...If you set those rules up right away than it keeps your children safe..thank you.
