What I mean by that is in the state you live is the pay enough to make ends meet on or are you needing two pay checks just to make a mortgage payment and living expenses? Is it because the houses cost that much if you need two pays or is it because you're fortunate and able to live better? I'm contemplating moving (again) both because of work and the lack of in my current location and to once again hide so I can live my life without further abuse, crimes, etc against me. I'd like to live where I can make ends meet on one paycheck and still be a homeowner again.
I'm interested in hearing from people from different states and whether its doable where you are for a single non bachelor person can make a decent living and pay a mortgage?

I am in Kansas. Its not too bad here depending on which town you would live in. We are a household of 6 (2 adults 4 children) and barely make it on 1 paycheck. We pay $600/mth rent, not mortgage. Plus our bills; electric, gas, water, phone, cable, etc...
I would say you could make it here provided you got the right paying job. Housing isn't too bad depending on what your looking for. As with most places though, the wages seem to stay down as everything else is rising.
You should probably do some online researching as to where you want to live and see what jobs are available and the cost of housing.
